Continental ExtremeContact DW - Interesting?
Ive been doing my homework on my C63 build for several weeks now and I came across a tire I hadnt seen before and want to share.
Here are two helpful reviews that I found.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=140
http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-09...res/index.html
The tire is comparable to the Michelin PS2 but has a wear rating of 340!!! It is also just as lite weight as the PS2 but about $100 dollars a pop less!!!!
Here are some spec's and pricing from tirerack
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....remeContact+DW
It also comes in a wide variety of sizes unlike the OEM ContiSportContact 5p.

I come across that tire every time I get into my car. Love them. You can't get the rears in stock size. That's not a problem though because I prefer to have 265/35/18 sized tires.

While I was impressed in the beginning, and I am still impressed by their performance, I am not impressed by their wear and tear performance... I put them on in September last year, and they are pretty much done at this point.
However, that may be due to my climate.. ie I drove them in freezing weather, for which they are not designed. So that may have caused excessive wear and tear.
Just keep that in mind, depending on wear you live and your climate. Otherwise I am happy (other then the fact that the DWS versions are no longer XL in the front apparently.. so I will be replacing those as well.. *sigh* just a month old.... )

Continentals gain performance by sacrificing tire life. That's why I went to Bridgestone Pole Position II awhile back. Their compounds perform just as well and they last 1/3 longer than the Conti's.

I was eyeing these tires as well. Good to hear they have received positive reviews.
I have been highly disappointed with my current Bridgestone RE760. Horrible wet weather traction from the start and dry traction isn't much to speak of either.
Was very happy with Goodyear F1 Asyms to replace the stock p-zeros on the rear, but they were pricy and the wear was as fast as the p-zeros.
Am also considering Hankook or Vredestien. Obviously cheaper at 175-200/tire, but I'm afraid I might get what I pay for.
According to tirerack at sizes 275/30/19 and 245/35/19: ( I need to replace all 4)
Hankook: 750
Contis: 988
GY: 1162 - 80 (rebate) = 1082
Then plus shipping/installation/etc.

How many miles did you get with them and how does that compare to the
mileage you got on the stock tires?

I have them on my rears, they are incredible in the wet compared to the Pzero's, grip is also improved over the stock p zero's.
275's DO NOT FIT on the back.
I mean they do, but there is about half a pencil thickness between the side wall and the break lines.
*running the 265's in the rear

Really? A lot of people on this forum have 275's and they fit fine. Are u using the stock rims, is the tire just wider than other 275's or do you need an adjustment on your offsets?

i will try and find the pick of the rtire being 4mm away from a break line.
I mean they fit but that is to close for my comfort..
I have seen wall flex way more than that..

Before selling the c63, I tried the conti DW's and the DSW's.
Trust me when I tell you this. Save your money... These tires are NO substitute for the Michelin PS2's.
They are certainly cheaper than the PS2's, and tire rack shows them as a better tire but I assure you that you will experience less handling characteristics and steering response.
Do not buy these tires if you have already had the PS2's, you will be disappointed!!!

Just my opinion, but I have them on my stock CLS and they handle great in wet conditions, but they wear really fast. I've only had them on for around four and a half months and the rears are done. I can only imagine how fast they will go with the power you guys are making. PS2's are next for me.

I was looking at the continentals on tire rack as well. My rear Pzero Rossos have lasted only 5 months 7,500 daily driver miles. Anyone have experience with Bridgestone Potenza RE 11's in 275/30/19 on AMG multispokes? Will the RE11's fit on these rear rims. tire rack rates them superiorly and a friend of mine, an auto cross champion, swears that these are the best Street tires short of R compounds out there. He says normal transition on an auto cross course in changing from slicks to street tires increases his time by about 4 secs, while changing from slicks to the RE 11's only increased his time by 1 second and they continue to last for a long time.

Will post some pics tonight - finally got them on and my first reaction was the tire noise - or lack thereof. Also there are no rubbing issues.
These tires ride smooth compare to T1-Rs - and are way more comfortable than my 18 inch winters (obviously). But I would have thought even with an 18" winter tire I would have a smoother ride (or comparable ride) than any 19" tire given the extra inch.
I paid $1006 shipped for 245/19 and 275/19 setup, and I get a free Nook. Good deal imo.
