Cracked a front fog light.

I think a rock or something hit one of my front fogs. Anyways one of them is cracked. Anyone out there have any suggestions on an upgrade for the front fog lamps. Haven't checked with the dealer for a replacement but was thinking there might be a better option out there. Thanks for any help.

Jvanbrecht also had the same issue, I think he made a post on it. Follow up with him, he would know...

Yep, mine is busted too. I have not replaced it, I plan too soon, since winter is over, just did my first complete car wash today.

Its around $250 for the whole unit, unfortunately you cannot replace just the lens cover.

This might be something to look into post install:
http://www.headlightarmor.com/08-11-...ction-kit.aspx

Here's a pair for $150.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/08-09...-/120691282024

Assuming the light is reasonable quality, having a spare might be nice. But, I know nothing about the mfg (Depo). All I could find is that they're Chinese. Big surprise huh?

I think you can find the fogs at a discount on GetMercedesParts as well.

MSRP $210.00 discounted $157.50

https://mbworld.org/forums/newreply....te=1&p=4568266

The description seems a little off so I would email to confirm it is the correct part.

Thanks guys for the responses. I will probably just use one of the websites here if I can't find something different in an after market manufacturer.

The silver ring can be removed without the bumper, but you have to remove the bumper to replace the fog light itself.

The price I quote was what the service guy wrote on the back of the card. The screwed up thing, is that https://www.getmercedesparts.com/mer...***-parts.html is run by my dealership (MB of Annapolis in MD), and the website lists..

W/amg Right - W/o led - W/o led
08-11 $154.00 $115.50
How messed up is that... Unless I was quoted a price for both fog lamps....

The other side could be that while the website is sponsored by my dealership, it is not run by the parts dep of my dealership, which could explain the price discrepancy (which I am really hoping, since the dealership has treated me well so far, even going so far as to fixing my tpms sensor that NTB installed and screwed up, for free...)

I replaced my right side (passenger side in US) fog light from the back. Just had to loosen the oil cooler, move it to the side a bit and then the fog light assy came right out. Was a little tight, but 10x easier than removing the bumper. I would think that the driver's side would be easier. I also put a clear film over the fog lights (from Griots Garage) and don't even have a chip in them since. Wish I had done that to begin with.

At this point, I am not sure, as I have not tried. Winter has not been kind to me, the left fog light ring is gone (apparently according to the body shop I took it to for a different issue [someone reversed into my car], they just pop out sometimes), the right side has the ring, but the busted lens, when I replace the right, hopefully it comes with the ring, otherwise the ring is like $70 or something..

I think that the fog light housing should be replace as soon as you can, to prevent corrosion from setting in, and screwing up your bulb socket.

Great, mine is the driver's side that is cracked. I hope it is an easy fix.

Quick question, do you know if there is an easy way to unplug/disconnect the fog lights? The reason for me wanting to do this is I installed LED lights and it looks amazing with just the eyebrow lights on with the LEDs. Unfortunately, with the eyebrows on only, the fog lights have to be on too. At least on the Canadian cars.

The 4th pic in the link below shows the eyebrow lights on, with the LEDs, and of course, the fog lights. I'm wondering if there's just a wire that I can reach down and unplug from the fogs?? Might throw off an error code??

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The DEPO units are ok. If you break them often, they are an option. After several years they will yellow slightly. I have no idea if the OE ones yellow or not.

The chrome coating is not as good.

DEPO is a Taiwanese company for the record but has massive manufacturing facilities for OE lighting on mainland China where they supply a lot of lights for cars and subassemblies sold to the car manufacturers in the area.

They aren't a bad company. They aren't a great company.

No. I was just adding information to post #4. DEPO is not technically a Chinese company unless you prescribe to the one China policy. Not that there is anything wrong with that or right with that. DEPO manufactures lights in several locations in Taiwan and on mainland China. The stuff for newer, higher end cars tends to get manufactured in Taiwan. The old stuff or stuff for cheap cars and Asian manufactured cars is often but not exclusively made in mainland China.

In Taiwan the products tend to be a little better quality. Its not so much the people as the availability of things like virgin polypropylene, ABS, polycarbonate, etc. Chinese (mainland) supplied plastic seems to be of a rougher grade and invariably contains some contamination from recycled plastics. Its my experience that these yellow somewhat faster and may show degradations in reflector coatings etc.

Or not. I'm just telling you the general trend. Just like its generally warmer in Florida than in Tennessee. But not always.

If I tended to break lenses a lot, I would buy DEPO if I needed to shave a few dollars, they're generally good products. But an even better brand if its available is TYC. Of course, I would always buy OE if I can afford it.

PS: Just to **** you off, foglights wholesale for about $45 per set in quantities of 100 pairs.

I don't sell them, so don't ask. I just pass along what I know.

I don't have access to my car right now, but if I recall, you can remove the front underbody tray, and then you can see the fog lamp wiring from under the car. They just unplug like other lamp connections (press in hard and twist). You will obviously need to wrap or otherwise protect the back of the lamp assembly and the wire ends. And yes, I would bet you just about anything that if you disconnect the lamps you will get a warning message.

In fact, the car may turn on the main headlamps automatically if the fogs don't work and they are required to be on with the running lights.

Cracked foglight

My unofficial Benz mechanic told me that MB had warranty issues with the C-Class fog lamps; it seems they overheat and cause the lens to crack.
When I told him that mine was broken, he asked if it was a rock or not that cracked it. I had assumed that a rock broke it but after taking a closer look at it, I'm thinking that it wasn't a rock after all.
Any thoughts?
