Ok scraping the Service B and going with just an oil change....

Ok i've decided to skip the full Service B and just go with an oil change and have them change the diff fluid. Taking to my local dealer. They are charging me $120 for the oil change and $80 diff service. I know I know I can ge the diff service for free.

My question is there anything else I would have them check? I bought the car with 13k miles (it now has almost 19k). It is calling for the service B. Based on everything I have read on here it is just a glorified oil change. Just want to make sure I don miss anything. Thoughts? Thanks guys.

just get the oil change. My local dealer runs monthly specials for $99 for oil changes. As far as the service, its more /less inspection of brakes, tires, etc..Somethign you can do yourself. I dont plan on doing any of the service A/B as a whole, but will pick the ones that i really do need if i can't do myself (tranny /diff fluid changes).

Check the fluids including the power steering. Mine was a little low. My C63 has 20k miles.

Might want to change the cabin filter and flush the brake fluid. Definitely check the air filters.

I just ordered 2 oil filters and 2 air filters for my upcoming service on the E63, next month. As for my C63, I still have another 2500 miles before service is due. So it's always good to buy extras.

Oddly enough, its not the parts that cost you, even if you spend $60 for the cabin air filter from MB.... Its the damn oil.. 2 six packs cost me about $120... And there are no places to really buy in bulk or at a discount.. Even Amazon prices were the same at Autozone or Advanced..

I was going to do the same thing with my GL, but a service tech explained to me that services are controlled by a report the vehicle generates, not a true schedule. So if you're going to just do the oil / diff, I'd at least get a dealer to scan the vehicle and make sure that's all you need.

jvanbrecht.....Dam, where are you buying oil from? I was just at Autozone two days ago. A case (6) quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 sells for $44.83, So 12 quarts would set you back approximately $90, not $120, unless your buying from the stealership because you know that they will definitely have it in stock.

I picked mine up from Advanced Autoparts (it was around the corner from my house). Only things I picked up from the dealer were the air filter and oil filter, since I did not have the foresight to order online before I decided to do it myself.

What size socket is used for the oil filter cap, on our cars? Is it 36mm or 38mm. I need to buy a socket or a boxed wrench for our DIY event next month.

Get to the gym - I can usually get it off without a wrench. It should just be hand tight. But when I do need a wrench, I just use an adjustable wrench or slip jaw pliers. I refuse to buy a giant-*** wrench just for the oil filter housing.

They wanted $489 for the Service B. I think the oil change was actually $112. I think I over stated the price a little bit. The diff change was $80. I know some people here have gotten it for free but not the case at my dealers. So about $200 for both items. I can change the filters myself (it's not that big a deal). The scan is something though I might look into.

That is a good deal. my local dealer has Mobil 1 5W40 in bulk and they said they would sell it to me for ~ $10.00. It is over that at most auto places around here if you can get it at all.

I was at Advance Auto today, Mobil 1 is 8.99/qt but they have a special: 5 qts and a filter for $32.99 Of course they didn't have a filter for the C63 but I got 2 for my son's S2000. The filter cost me $33 at the dealership.
