will some carbon fiber parts turn greenish?
i've been told that some carbon fiber parts can turn greenish after being in the sun for a long time. even though it comes with a clear coat on it. probably cars that are kept outside or getting a lot of sunlight for maybe over a year or so. anyone know this to be true?
i have some products from suvneer and mcd motorsports which i haven't installed yet and i'm wondering if i should put an extra layer of clear coat on them.
if anyone has had some cf parts for a well over a year and have seen no problems, please chime in. thanks

Only on St. Patricks day. lol
I had my Vorstiener diffuser and spoiler for close to a year and hasn't changed color. CF wont turn green but if it does change color it would turn yellow.

My carbonio airboxes and intake tubes are yellow. My Euroteck Diffuser is still going strong and it's been on the car longer than the carbonio products. I have no clue whether to attribute it to a heat issue or quality issue or both.

My guess is that the under hood heat and we know our under hood temps are high is aging the clear coat on the Carbonio intake. I am not sure if there is a clear coat that will stand up better. Maybe a CF with no overcoat would fair better.

Cheap/fake carbon parts on the outside of your car, especially the diffuser, will eventually turn yellow. The same goes for the engine bay. At least that's my understanding.

VR Alexander's Porsche Carrera GT had a yellowing issue with the carbon fiber.

It has more to do with the chemical compound of the resin than it does with being "cheap" or "fake". The priority on cosmetic parts should be for a "colorless" resin, but some of the strongest and most durable resins out there do have some color to them - which will also change and vary based on the cleaning agents you use. Here's a hint: don't use Windex or anything with a lot of ammonia.

^ That picture has no where near the discoloration that happens to some "cheap" carbon fiber parts.... not even close.
Every Carbonio carbon fiber part I've seen has turned yellow (and I've seen so many parts at different track events).... and they have done so freakishly fast. I have yet to see a RENNtech, Revozport, or EuroTeck carbon fiber part turn yellow or even turn anywhere close to the disaster of discoloration of the Carbonio parts.
I think if a company intends to produce a high quality carbon fiber part, they should avoid using a chemical that would ruin the aesthetics of the product especially when other companies seem to have solved that problem. These parts go on fairly expensive cars, and I just can't stand seeing such a beautiful car with such a deteriorated product.

To answer your discoloration questions. Well, typically when I am creating carbon fiber parts for personal use I use prepregnated cf for ease of use. Normally aftermarket cf pieces have an appealing shine to them and having this extra resin or coating of clear does not do well in direct heat environment. If you ever get near a race team or an f1 race car you will not find any glossy cf panels unless they are painted for aesthetic reasons. The less of a resin being used the lighter the material and the less of a chane of discoloring with age. Hopr that simple explanation helps.
