Magno Allanite Grey respray?

Would a dealer even consider doing a full body repaint on a black car to Magno Allanite Grey? Do you think a body shop could pull it off? $6K? $10k?

Never mind resale value and other such discussions for the time being

I was quoted about 8k for designo matte black. Ended up vinyl wrapping myself for 700

surely removing engine and all trim etc etc, to do a true fullbody respray would cost 2x that amount?

Well, that is what I am going for then. A full wrap instead. I want to do the flat grey metallic from 3M, but I am scared about the wear after one year, will it start to show blemishes? Can a great wrap look perfect?

A wrap done by a very skilled and meticulous installer can look great. As far as durability, the vinyl will not wear as well as paint, but should still look good for at least a year even under dailiy use. I'm not sure on the durability of a matte vinyl as I'm not sure how you provide UV protection since you can't really wax or use sealant on it without affecting the matte look.

For DIY you can get perfect if you are patient and take time to prep and apply properly. The actual vinyling is rather easy once you have applied a piece or 2. I suggest saving the bumpers for last as they are the hardest and the rest of the car is good to get technique down.

I cant speak for 3m since I used Oracal, but its durability is great after a year and 20,000km. I ordered a full Roll and have re-vinyled the hood already due to a large stone chip in the vinyl.... The paint remained flawless underneath. The Oracal also has a clear coat so minor scratches can be "finger buffed" out.
