If you want to be able to switch back and forth between stock and tune, and be able to update the file down the road as you add headers, exhaust, etc., you'd be smart to look at an OBDii flash solution.

Mikey,

I just recently got my car tuned by Renntech and Im loving it. Feels like I have brand new car with a Sh*t load more power.
I have 2008 C63 which I bought May of 2008. I was one of the first few to own C63 in Canada. For the first 2 and a half years I had it stock and was quite satisfied with the power but as time went on the urge to see the true potential of this car over came me and I got the tune.
I went through the same dilemma as you on what tune to get, but I settled with Renntech basically because their very reputable company with a quality product. That being said the Renntech tune is one of the more expensive tunes. However now that I have been driving it for a few days it was worth it. The car pulls so hard its ridiculous. C mode now with the tune feels like S mode stock and S mode tuned.......out of this F***** world!
I specifically asked for a 93 octane tune which renntech informed me was generally what they do with their tunes. We have 94 octane gas up here in Calgary Canada at our Husky stations so I believe it helps. Renntech claims 517hp and 485Ft/lbs from crank on their website but I think this is conservative. I hope can find a dyno and see what power Im truly putting down. Any way its worth it whatever tune you get but for me Renntech was the best choice because it gave me peace of mind that they do great job and my engine wont blow up.

^ none of these cars will blow up with a conservative 510-525 hp tune, since these are essentially SL63 and E63 files. No "black magic" here. OE, Eurocharged, Speedriven are all great options without the RENNtax.

I am!
Had my W211 E55 tuned by RENNTech and was very pleased with the product & service.

That's not to say i wouldn't look at other options though.

I'm not sure that's a fair comment. I would say most people you talk to who are into Mercedes tuning were originally inspired by RENNtech, as lame as that sounds. I remember in college reading about the EV12 and seeing the 5 and 7 liter V12 cars and thinking "I would totally love to work there/own one". I know I'm not alone, either.

The problem is: that's all PR and marketing and smoke and mirrors, and the longer you're around MB tuning the more you realize RT is a branding exercise - it's the $200 designer-label version of the $40 Levis, and adds just about as much to the experience as the label does: it impresses posers.

Disclaimer: obviously that's just my (Jo Borras') opinion. Others are more than entitled to theirs.
