few questions before my test drive.

Hi there.
I have considered the C63 amg for a few years and now the circumstances seem more favourable for me to but he car. I have booked a test drive tomorrow and would be grateful if people could answer some questions I have about the car:

1)What is your average mpg for long journeys.
2)Does it require superunleaded petrol(98-99 RON)?
3) Does the car lose traction easily in the wet when accelerating in a straight line?
4) How would you compare sraightline performance and running costs with the E60 M5( another car I would like to drive)
5) Which colour would you recomend on his car. or which colour do you think suits the car best(subjective I know!)

Thanks

1. 21-21.5 on long highway slogs
2. Premium is required. You can't afford the car if this is an issue.
3. Yes it does. Use C mode when it rains.
4. Never driven a M5.
5. Iridium silver. I have black and it gets dirty immediately.

May you "but he car".

1. don't care to know
2. yes
3. yes just keep traction control on
4. stock it'll take the M5 to around 100, then after m5 dominates; after tune c63 wins
5. Iridium, Blue, or Mars red

I own an M6 and a CLK63 BS. Both are gas guzzlers. Insurance on the M6 is actually more expensive than on my Mercedes, which had a higher MSRP. If the C63 is stock, both cars are about even from a dig. From a roll at FWY speed, the M5/M6 will walk the C63. One more thing, the V10 in the M LOVES oil ..... $17 a quart

You must be from Northern Europe , perhaps the UK(I am guessing).

- My average on HWY is around 23-24 mpg at around 75 MPH.
- Car will required the 98 (in Europe)
- The car will lose traction in wet if you have the traction control disconnected.
- Similar in straight line acceleration with M-5. I heard from a good M-5 friend owner that the M-5 is even worst on gas mileage. M-5 I bleieve are covered by a warranty for the first 4 years(BMW standard)
- The color issue is very subjective. Here in AZ black is a No-No. Also, consider a premium for certain colors. Mine is Red and I saved $720. As crazy as it sounds there is a $720 extra charge on white even though the White is one of the basic color for all the colors.

I hope my opinion helped a little.

1. Only on my 3rd tank...don't know!
2. Get the best premium you can get your hands on
3. Depends on your level of common sense
4. M5 is too old, dated...great car but so 5 years ago, love it and by all accounts cars are very close
5. I think Iridium is very nice but black is the most menacing

Thanks for all the replies. Very useful

A couple of questions i forgot to ask were:
1) what is your average range in one full tank?
2). How many miles did your rear tyres last for?

Thanks

Taking it easy you can get about 21mpg on the freeway. Hit the big pedal hard enough times and you can easily drop that to 12mpg.
The thing eats rear tire twice as fast as fronts. You'll be lucky to get 8K miles out of a set of rears.
The car requires premium unleaded fuel but has knock sensor to compensate for changes in the different octane of premium fuels in different countries/states.
The car can easily over power the rear tires. Keep the ESP on in the rain at all times or if you are concerned about road conditions.
For fun go look at the review of the car on Top Gear.
The M5 is a size class up (more like and AMG E63). However it is faster, handles better, and cost alot more money than a C63.
Steel Grey Metallic seems to be the most popular, but I prefer the classic Iridium Silver. Palladium Silver is also attractive. There are currently 10 color choices so consider yourself lucky as AMG used to only offer three.
I don't know the market in GB, but in the US make sure you get the Premium Package (the seats are fantastic), Multi Media Package and Full leather or you'll taking a beating in resale. If you enjoy driving the car hard consider the P031 Development Package with LSD.

The 2012 models will have a face lift with a more refined interior if you care to wait.

I've driven my car 15 days over 3.5 months and have not resetted my mpg reader from when car was bought. Average for 1300 miles was 15mpg. My lowest tank reading was 150mptank. Highest was 190ish. I put $30-$40 of gas average per driving day. Since I work over 100 hours per week, I drive the hell out of it after work Sundays. C mode and ESP on are your best friends when it's raining. Color preference should be your sole preference. But no matter what, you will be in love with the car like your first crush. Good luck!

1) Dont know yet....on my third summer with this car....I think I hear it guzzling gas on full throttle.
2) Cant remember, to much fun, on my third set of rears, still same fronts.

Look, you seem to be asking questions that the real answers may hurt your feelings. Look at the size of this motor and gearing ratios and your gas consumption questions will be answered. As far as your rear tires, the Hp and torque that this powerplant gives will gobble up rear tires with this slightest dip of the throttle. But one thing is for sure, you will smile relentlessly and the people around you will also look in awe.....this is worth the price of admission.

No difference than the C63 oil comsuption. As far is the $17 a quart? what type of oil do you buy? I would guess that Castrol or Mobil one or even any synthetic would do it but they cost like $6 or $7 a quart not $17.

That's because M motors use 10w60.

There is only one oil you can use: Castrol RS 10-60. It's hard to find anywhere but the BMW dealer for $17 the quart. There are two things those V10's love: Gas and oil ..... but the sound and power it produces at 8200 is well worth it

Hi. Ifor the test drive yesterday and I can say that I feel the car is right for me. Looks wise I think it looks enacing without being OTT. Interior is compact(some might say slightly cramped a back) Performance wise the car didnt feel as quick as I thought it would b but perhaps I didn slam the accelrtor as muh as I ould have liked. My impression is that the paddle shift gear levers are very difficult to use as the revs fly so quickly in early gears its difficult to change at the right time. I feel if I bough this car I would be using auto gears all the time.
I wanted to ask people about the "performance package"- I think it includes limited slip diff and bhp boost of 20bhp I think. Do you think this is an option or something you would recommend.
I have seen 2 models

08 model, 34000 miles, tenorite grey mettalic(see atachment) all bells and whistles but no performance package. £37k

08 model , 20000 miles, white colour, most interior options +performance package. £40k.

Which would you go for. I love the tenorite grey colour but should choose colour over performance or the other way round?

Definately the Tenorite Grey. Spend the 3K difference on a tune and a decent LSD (ok you might have to throw in a bit more) but you will end up with superior performance and a dead sexy color combo.

+1 here. Since you are buying used, then there is no reason not to tune. ECU tune + LSD + KW v3 coilovers >> PP.

Agreed, since it's preowned. You have nothing to lose(except your bank balance), and much to gain. Grey looks sweet. But then again, it's your preference. All C63's are head turners no matter the color. Once you stomp the throttle, the sound is undeniable.

I'm late to the game.. but with regards to the tires, all summer tires on all performance vehicles will have the same problem..... they wear out fast, if you chose, you have the option of going with All seasons, they will last longer, but you lose some performance.

It eats gas, most performance cars do (except for the current 2012's and up who get better mileage due to newer technology like start/stop and direct injection).

The smile is worth the cost..

3k buys you 30 bhp from the factory, legit and factory verified gains PLUS 14,000 miles younger. No brainer.

I'm with coladin, I would go for the white one as well, not only because I love white cars... but for 3k more, you get 14 000 miles less (which is a lot for a pre-owned) & all the factory performance goodies.

Didn't notice the prices, but coladin has a point. Wonder why it costs less. Make sure to get carfax/autocheck.

Just go test drive it, you don't have to buy it. But after you test drive it, I doubt you won't buy it. :o

I didn't even test drive it. Walked in showroom, pointed at the only C63 they had, and 2 sales reps rush to me. Ordered a fresh one that day.

These are 2008 models, the P30 package does not provide any horsepower difference.
