CEL Code P2187 & P0171

CEL came on today. Does anyone know what these two codes are. I believe P0171 is mass air flow but I have no idea what P2187 is. Anyone?

P2187 = system running lean in bank 1.

Purge valve, maf sensor, filters?

Have you added air filters recently?

P0171 is the same code i keep getting. Havent had time to take it to the dealer. Nothings changed on my car in 12k miles. Ive already change the gas cap, and Purge Valve. I dont have charcoals, but they have been removed sine 1200 miles.

Some guys say it might be the intake manifold gasket, or maf sensors.

I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. I've removed the charcoals and added K&N 12 months ago. This is the first time my CEL has come on. I've had my Euro tune for almost a year as well. Never had a prblem before.

I'll keep you posted when I get an update.

P0170-0174 codes very often relate to a MAF malfunction. Other possibilities are intake and vacuum leaks, airbox/airstream obstruction, plugging cat, marginal O2 sensor and even a dirty air or fuel filter.

Update:

They replaced the Purge valve and covered a mirror lens cover under warranty. No mention of my tune or K&N with no charcoals.. The question is did they reflash the car. I'll know this afternoon.

I believe if they did a reflash, it has to state it on the work order.

Its your charcoals which sets the PO171 code.

Are you positive? This isn't really anything to worry about right?

When I was stock I removed the charcoals-CEL came on with the PO171 code. I bought the OB2 reader and erased it. Now I have a tune and leave the charcoals in because of this.

I don't think people have shown that Charcolas make a HUGE difference so might as well keep em in and prevent a code buffet...

I took my charcoals out and put K&N's in with 180 miles on the odometer
without any problems. I currently have 9500 miles.

The only times I had a cel was for a purge valve and a bad O2
sensor.

Just an update.

Picked my car up and they did not flash the ECU. They replaced the purge valve and cleared the codes only. I talked to my SA and she was very clear that the car was not flashed. Happy days!!! Wahoo!

Hope its truly fixed, as I had the purge valve replaced, and the light came back a few weeks later. I dont have charcoals, but they were removed over 10k miles ago, so I dont believe thats the problem.

I would agree I dont believe it is the charcoals. I've had my charcoals removed for 12K. I've never had an issue before.

hey guys, i'm getting the same codes shortly after my 50k service (same day actually).. looks like this is due to purge valve and/or something with the air filters? Seems to be running fine..

I have an appt with the dealer but it's a few days from now. is it OK to by driving around with this?

I also just got the P0171 code, lights stayed on for 2 days then disappeared and hasn't come back since. Ordered myself some K&N filters going to remove charcoals when installing them and see what happens.

I hate going to the dealer for anything thats not serious I would rather fix the car myself out of pocket if its nothing major. If tuning the car will it cause complications going to the dealer for anything in the future?

After the purge valve was replaced my CEL came back on shortly after. I took it back to MB and they replaced the manifold gasket and two stud bolts.

if you have a 09 there is a high chance it's the intake manifold gaskets.

I just got my car back from the dealer, I had a CEL last week (just before I went ouf of town)

The codes I had were:
0745 - mixture bank 1 is too lean
2091- mixture bank 1 is too lean at idle

Both my right and left intake manifolds were leaking, they replaced the gaskets as well as the bolts.

Does anyone know the part number for the intake manifold gasket?
I get the P2187 CEL once in a while so I think it's time to take care of the issue.
