Help needed - car died. Input appreciated.
So yesterday I drove my car to the city, went to the bank, came back and the key did not work any more. The car is dead. It was taken to the stealership. BTW the steering wheel is blocked.
Since then the car does not "suck" in the key any more. No ignition, no CEL, no lights on the dashboard. I tried both keys, checked the fuses and disconected and reconnected the battery.
They are telling me it might be just an electronic error or the ingition. If its the ignition, it'll be damn expensive and I'll have to wait about 2 weeks due to safety procedures at MB.
Perfect weekend and a great way to start the summer.
Any help on this matter will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Oh jeeez I am sorry to hear...with something like that it could be anything, perhaps even fried onboard computer. Ignition sounds like an accurate diagnosis too though.
Hope you get it resolved and enjoy your weekend.

Sorry to hear Matt... hope it's something not major. Good luck with the fix, and don't worry too much, car can be fixed.

Sorry to hear about your car problems. Sudden failures leave me feeling so helpless and being at the mercy of the dealer is no joy most of the time.
GL with the repair and hope the dealer is reasonable. I have no idea for a solution but I hope it is something simple. The Ignition switch does sound like a likely culprit.

Dang, that sucks to have only 2 years warranty in Europe.. Now I feel your pain! Is there an option to buy extended warranty there?

They say it was the steering column. They've replaced it and the ignition works but the car doesn't start. They now have to oreder a special DRT key to program my keyless-go so the car will start which will take about a week.
All in all it will cos me about $1200.
I think it looks like this:

Typical German car syndrome. Never make something simple when you can make it expensive and catastrophic.
What the hell is wrong with a normal key anyway?

Ok, I have the car since last friday and everything works as it should.
They replaced the steering column and programmed my keyless go.
For the keyless go they had to order a special service key (DRT or sth) for $300.
All in all this fuking mishap cost me $1100.
When I asked what was the reason for this problem, they claimed that it is impossible to diagnose such an occurance.
Fukin stealership.
I really have to get rid of this car. It's breakin into pieces...

Last time it happened to me , it was a bad ground on the battery..........
I'm sorry to hear about your car , but sometimes , you search for impossible issues when the problem is just in front if of you...
ps : I don't know if my post contained any help. If not , feel free to forget about it...

But I think it's not completely removed - it is just raised to 300km/h. That's the maximum I got out of my car.
They did it for free.
I would cut myself if I paid the extra $$$ for a 280km/h limit from the factory (extra option in Europe called "driver's pack").

Sorry to hear about your breakdown.
What other issues did you have to feel that your C63 is falling into pieces.
I have not heard about this car having major problems and most forum posters feel it is a solid piece of engineering.

My mirrors were squeeching like crazy.
My clutch died at 80'000km.
My DVD player does not work. (CDs work)
My trunk did not close properly (some issue with the lock).
Now the car has 125'989km on the clock and the engine is running great but all the electronic stuff is just a mess.
Although the new BS is a stunning car I think I will be moving to... a BMW in December. Let's hope the twin turbos will do their job

wowzers.. that's a lot of mileage!
and having failed suspensions and clutch dying isn't a good experience...
yeah, i wouldn't blame you in switching into another car but i'm sure the electronics can be fixed..

Nevertheless, the car isn't reliable at all.
Electronics can be fixed but I would only be able to live it if it was all done under warranty. My warranty has expired and the car is having new issues every month.
