2014 C63 AMG 507 sedan
HI C63 community!
I had a 2009 C63, then traded it in and got a 2011 C63 with currenlty 11,000 miles.
I experience the same issue, I have a loose feeling in my steering wheel, it seems to make a noise and it only occurs on uneven roads.
My previous 09 model didn`t show this issue.
I recenlty had the car at the dealership for service and I told them about my experiences. The technician stated that everything is normal.
I picked up my car and it still shows the same problem.
Any other ideas?
Best regards

2011 C63 AMG here and I have the same "feeling" in my steering wheel. Kind of like there is something just slightly lose in the steering somewhere but deep enough that you can't actually hear it, you can just feel it in your hands. But the steering wheel itself is nice and solid
Noticed it after a few weeks of ownership (new) and just now stumbled onto this thread...
JUST FOUND THIS: http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/...f=SearchResult
Now it's transport Canada (our equivalent of DOT) but it does clearly describe recall on the power steering, maybe this is our problem/solution ?

Every time I could feel the steering get loose I would get the control arms ( all of them changed). Though its worth pointing out that when I went under the car with the dealer mechanic the control arms looked fine. The rubber around the joints only have very fine cracks not big ones and it felt solid when he tried to flex them. However once changed the handling was noticeably sharper with new ones. He was surprised to as in other models those parts should exhibit more wear before they are due for replacement.
If all control arms are changed and you still get a noise like something is loose when going over sharp bumps, then you should change the top front suspension rubber mounts that have bearings in them. I just did that now at about 30,000 and the car feels as sharp as the day I got it.

Not sure any one get to the bottom of this, I just got the CPO 2011 C63 and have exact same "Feel" from the steering when driving thru uneven road. My lease return 2012 C250 has no such a feeling since I drive the same canyon road and freeway daily. Planning to bring to dealer for a check soon.

Reviving this old thread since I have a 2009 C63 with the same issue and have found no resolution. I took it to my dealer and even had the tech sit in the passenger seat and took it for a drive. The steering definitely feels loose like my driver wheel is loose (almost as if it is missing a lug bolt). It is most noticeable when speeds above 70mph and you wiggle the steering wheel left/right and you can feel the front end float left to right and feels MUCH softer than the way it should normally feel. It feels very unsafe changing lanes above 70mph because the body tends to feel like it is rolling harder.
The dealership kept it for a week and even drove another c63 and couldn't feel a difference in driving both models. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what else to look for? I know the tech checked all bushings and suspension components front and rear and could not find any issues. Maybe this is a possible steering rack issue?

you guys do realize these cars do have speed adaptive steering right? which means at lower speeds it feels kinda sloppy and loose, and at higher speeds it feels very tight and nimble

Yes. The issue is that at high speeds the wheels feel loose as if they are floating on the suspension. If you are traveling at 60mph and floor it and the car takes off, the front end banks to the left (in my case) as if the front suspension can't handle the sudden weight and acceleration. It feels like it could be a steering rack problem but I am not sure what else to tell the dealership. I was thinking of having an independent Mercedes specialist shop look at it and drive it and let me know what they think.

I play with different ESP mode. At Sport mode, it does feel more solid and less hollow feel on my car.

I've had three c63's and they all feel the same way, although the second one was the worst of the lot. It's most noticeable in the winter when I switch to winter tires and with those the car is really "floaty".
My wife has an 2014 e350 convertible and I took it out for a ride yesterday and with winter tires on it I experienced the same thing, so it's not seemingly model dependent.
I don't think it's anything necessarily "wrong" with the cars. They are just very sensitive to any changes in road condition, or tire changes/wear. It is unnerving though.

what PSI are you guys running? I know when I run around 40 PSI on all 4 the car feels floaty at times but not all the time, and when the tires are all around 36-34 PSI the car doesn't get that floaty feeling, its more of a planted feeling

Guys don't run 40 PSI...no matter what the tire it makes the car feel floatly + skinnier tires, I was running 255s with 40 PSI (Michelin super sports) and it felt floatly, now I'm running 285's at 35 PSI and the car feels way better, feels like it's supose to feel

My 2011 C63's steering is fairly tight and precise, and on par or better than various BMWs and Porsches I've driven. I certainly wouldn't call it loose, so if yours feels that way, there may be a problem. I suggest that you get it checked out by someone qualified. Good luck.
Go to a certified mechanic and let them check your steering, they will give you the right answers.
That way you will safe alot of money...been there, done that..so trust me!

I drive my personal c63 almost daily and many many other 204's be it 63, 250,300,350 daily and after reading all of this I have no clue what ya'll are talking about. If anything the c-class steering racks give the most feedback and road fell out of any of benz's line with the exception of the black series cars. specially now since most of the racks are electric.

you guys wouldn't happen to be talking about a rattley-loose feeling in the steering wheel, would you? like a bushing is bad or something? if so, it's most likely the airbag inside the steering wheel. that thing isn't tight on mine and it def rattles around on rough roads. grab hold of the wheel and bang on it with the other hand and you'll feel a rattle.

Loose Feeling
2010 C220 Cdi Sport Estate - I have never driven a car with this feeling, having owned approximately 30 cars. The loose feeling is very annoying and was originally accompanied by a audible clonk when hitting speed bumps etc. Front shocks and anti roll bars replaced solved the noise but not the feeling of the wheels feeling like they aren't tight. All suspension checked over by MB specialists and all ok. Steering rack bushes? It is only a feeling through the steering wheel and does not affect handling at all. First MB and not impressed!
