2012 C63 vs. 2014 Cxx amg?

First posting here. Thinking of getting the new 2012 C63, but I hate it when the model style changes a year or two after. Questions:

1) I love the sound of the C63. I know there is talk of the new C63 having the 5.5L twin turbo in it. Does anyone know how the 5.5 would sound yet?

2) Anyone know of the HP rating yet on the 5.5.? I'm going to guess over 450hp since they always like to up the ante against the M3 and the previous models.

3) Anyone know of the reliability of the turbos in mercedes. I haven't heard much about them.

Anyways, thanks!

The C class follows a 7 year model change, with a mid model refresh 4 years in (2012 for the current gen). You won't see a new C class until MY2015. Dunno what you mean by the model changing every year or 2...

1) The 5.5L turbo is already in some of the AMG cars, such as the CLS63 AMG. Go on youtube and search for 2012 CLS 63 AMG and you'll find tons of videos on how it sounds.

2) The Performance pack on the CL63 with that motor bumps power up to 563hp.

3) I've had several friends that owned the 65 motors and haven't reported any issues, even when Renntech'd out to 700+hp.

I'm just going to say that if you're going to follow up on a purchase with that mentallity, technically, you'll never end up buying one. You're playing a redundant waiting game if they truly did come out with a complete overhaul every 2 years. However, they don't.

I guess what I meant is that the new C series body style is coming out in 2014, but is it really 2015?

Here it says 2014

2014 in Europe and 2015 in North America.

That is how it usually works.

Just a small point - the C63 will retain its name (MB is keeping the "63" designation with the new engine). The current 6.2l puts out 451 / 481 with the P31 package, so bet on bumps from those numbers. As far as reliability, I'm betting nobody that keeps the car stock will almost ever have a problem with them - MB & AMG test them like it's their job... because it is. Have you seen this test pic for the 63 engine?

If the 5.5 Bi-Turbo is to make it in the C63 in the future, then the horsepower gains, will not be significant, as it would conflict with the HP numbers of the E63. AMG never wanted the C63 to have the same HP rating as the E63. Ask yourself, why would I pay $100K for an E63 when I can get the same HP out of the C63? Although the E63 is more luxurious then the C63, has more technology and refinement. I'm looking at this from a pure business perspective. Another analogy, would you buy the Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil with 600+ HP for $100K+, when you could get the same HP numbers in a regular Corvette for $50K?

When the C63 does get the 5.5 bi-turbo in the future it will have to be neutered for the above reasons...
(no way they are going to keep the 6.2 around just for the C63 for more then a few years)
However, I would imagine a tune on the 5.5 turbo will yield crazy HP gains vs what is possible on the current NA engine.

The C63 will never (with the possible exception of the BS) get the 5.5 TT. It will get a modified version of the 5.5, meaning an NA version of it, the same that is coming into the SLK "63" AMG. You're enginewise better off with the 6.2 i would think. Probably gonna buy a used BS coupe later on and keep it as a collectible...

The last chat session that I was in with AMG, they stated that te 6.2 M156 engine will be around for awhile, how long exactly, they couldn't comment on. I think that AMG will keep the 6.2 around until the new W205 body is developed. I think that they may have a packaging issue with the 5.5 Bi_Turbo stuffing it into the C63. Just make take on it. But the longer the 6.2 is around, the better off we all are. i.e. Tunes, headers, LSD, exhaust, suspensions, brakes etc.

5.5TT will not make its way into the 205 generation C. 5.5 NA will be the next powertrain, same as the R172 SLK 55.
