Lightbulb ACG Build: C63 Weistec Stage 2

Mercedes Benz AMG has always been known as: "an iron fist in a velvet glove". They are luxurious cars with the ability to eat up most vehicles on the road in a straight-line race. The phrase has regained its meaning with the introduction of the c63 AMG, a smaller sedan with a monstrous 6.2 liter motor. Since its introduction, a number of aftermarket companies has offered ECU tunes, headers, nitros setups and other smaller performance enhancers. We all know what the gains were and what had been accomplished so far. With this project, we take a leap forward in enhancing the performance of the C63 AMG platform. Below you will find a short summary of the work to be done. While more will be added to the list, we will post the new updates as we go. The car will be built in-house at Automotive Connoisseur Group, San Diego facility by two of our Mercedes-certified mechanics.

The updates will first be posted to our Facebook page and then they will be posted here. "Like" us to be the first to see the updated images, the videos and the latest info:

The owner wants to stay anonymous; however, some of you will see him at some track events around SoCal.

Unlimited budget, eh? Baller.

Thanks for linking to this thread from 6SO... will be interesting to see the results you/Weistec/ACGSD achieve.

I hope you have better luck than JRCart.
Did you find the solution to the torque limiters that kick in beyond stage 1 numbers? I understand that stage 1 will be fine but when you get to stage 2 the power levels go beyond what the stock or modified ECU will allow and thats when the trouble starts. Have they been able to beat those limiters or are you going to face the same challenges?? If so, you should call JRCart and let him in on your secret. If not, an unlimited budget won't do you any good. Good luck!!

Right now we plan to do the build in stages...

first upgraded cylinder heads with stage 1

the we'll do teh stage 2 update with the LTH, and akra exhaust.

Next will be the stage 3 with SLS cams...

I respect the project that you're undertaking. Should be a beast-and-a-half in every stage.

Quick question: A build of this level is obviously about maxing out performance at every stage (which is a good thing), but are SLS cams an efficient match for F/I?

The SLS cams will actually help us lower the compression to run more boost.

I hear that. But if you want to lower compression, and clearly this is a big budget build, why not just get lower compression pistons. Why rely on the cams that already don't seem to work very well in the M156?

How much boost do you guys intend to run?

If you think about pushing this blower (assume trans limitations can be overcome) to like 12-14 psi (kind of the high limit for a 2.3L twin screw) would the SLS cams lower compression enough to not blow an 11.3:1 CR motor?

It is premature for me to even suggest a catastrophic engine failure. My bad for speaking negatively. We should only hope for postive things for this build.

I have to admit though, when I hear "SLS cams" for this build I tend to think that maybe the thought of using them is because they are pretty much the only available aftermarket cams. And if that's the case, then is it really the best match: M156 motor, twin screw, and SLS cams?

Edit: I also want to say that your guys' shop has an amazing reputation and I really respect the work that you guys produce.

If there are better cams, then they will be made. Everything was once not available. After this tests some limits, expect the motor to be static until the end of the year, then it will be removed from the car and non bolt-on modifications will be started.

Don't everyone be so worried. I really don't care if we make some mistakes along the way and have to backtrack. And if we have an engine failure, they make more of them. Relax, lets see where it goes.

That's a really great attitude. It's unique for the M156 market.

I was asking about the cams because in the Domestic F/I aftermarket, there are cams made for blower application. And they differ from the performance oriented N/A cams.

Sounds like you have some really fun ideas planned for an engine build. I guess you'll be looking into the rear fender mod so that you can fit some wider rear wheels/tires.

I'm really excited to see your build, especially because it sounds like you may delve deeper than anyone's been.

My first engine build was when I was 13 years old and my dad pulled home a 5th wheel car transport FILLED with Volkswagon Beetles. He told me I could build a flat track behind our house and race them if I could make any of them run. Before I was 14 I had 3 of them running and had taught myself to weld so I could make mild steel rollcages.

At 16 my dad bought me a brand new 1969 Z28 and told me to have at it.

It should be noted my dad had a reputation with Ford Model A hotrods.... He also lost his license on the same day I did when he bet me his new Honda 450 could outrun my Z28 in a quarter mile and we got popped at 130mph drag racing the wrong way on a one way street. Fun times.

By 17 I had built two 500HP small block Chevy drag cars and I had broken through the 11 second barrier in a Nova II.

I have the itch and the resources. Money is useless if you aren't doing good or having fun with it. The P-Car people over on 6SpeedOnline know about my Merc build, its doubtful that many people here know that simultaneously to this Merc build, I have a 996TT with the motor out heading to 700HP also.

Everyday is an adventure. Live it.

Jim
