Will I regret getting a 2011 C63 over the 2012?

Hi guys.

I've been looking into getting a C63 and got a great quote (I think) for a brand new 2011 C63 with all the options (P31 + LSD and all the other options) for around 63k. I realize that the 2012 are coming out soon (when exactly?) so I'm guessing the dealership is trying to sell the car.

Will I regret not getting the 2012 with the new transmission? I'm guessing that I won't be able to get invoice on the 2012. Or am I wrong? And, when approximately will they be appearing at dealerships if that's the case.

I'm itching to get into one and I could pull this off probably this week. So, my question is will I really regret not waiting. I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm curious to see what people say now.

Also, price-wise for the 2011...do you guys think I can go even lower?

Thanks in advance and appreciate any comments.

I would regret it. They have done a good job with the interior upgrades and I think I would prefer the MCT over the automatic in my C63. If I were getting another C63 I would have to go with the facelifted 2012. It's your call. You'll get lots of opinions on this. It's totally subjective.

I was worried you were going to say that and I'm guessing its going to boil down to that. I'm going to have to take a look at the new interior.

I really wonder how the driving dynamics will change with the new transmission. Will it be similar to the M3 but with so much more torque?

63k for a brand new fully loaded c63??? I almost want to call BS, but don't want to be a douche. A "fully loaded" one stickers for 82-83K, so if your number is anywhere near accurate, I'd jump ALL over it.

Decisions, decisions....

@lakbum - Depending on where in the world you are getting the C63 from, 63K for a fully loaded C63 is pretty decent. If you have your heart set on getting this car, you'll likely even see more trunk money if you wait until late Q3 / early Q4 2011, at model year end. There will be more money as dealers get pressure and allowance from MB corporate to move the vehicles.

That being said, this becomes an incredibly fine line if you're looking for a specific set of components / colors on the car, as they will disappear and you may lose it if you wait too long. It does happen. (I lost one before I got my C63 in 2009).

The new 5.5 biturbo will be awesome, that's a given. The new facelift is a nice change but not in enough itself, a reason to get to the 2012 IMO. Along in the decision process, you should also consider what you're going to be doing with it (tracking?), as you can get ECU tunes / aftermarket stuff that would get you comparable HP / torque.

Both the C63 and the M3 are great cars. I'd have one of each in my garage if I could.

In terms of pricing for the 2012, you will have slim to no bargaining power on the C63 for several months after its official release. I'd expect a March-April C63 AMG production release. Dealers can and will charge MSRP (or above) because there is the demand for it. Ridiculousness, I know but that's life in the fast line.

So, in short, would I wait for the 2012 (may or may not be fully loaded) or get a fully loaded 2011, what would I do? I'd probably wait a couple of months until there was more trunk money and then get the fully loaded new 2011. In the end, you'll be happy and smiling ear to ear in either of them, honestly.

Good luck dude! Stay on the dealer like white on rice and have fun.

I got the quote today. It doesn't have the carbon fiber trim and the original total is 79k. I think the price included the USAA incentive since he asked if I was a USAA member.

That is one of the reasons I'm inclined to get the 2011 cause of the great price and knowing that the 2012 will be difficult in getting a decent price...and in my area, the dealerships are saying MSRP at least.

I'm in the US. I am worried about waiting till Q4 or so since its been difficult finding it with the P31 + LSD package. Like you said it has happened to you, I'm worried that it will sell before then.

I didn't realize the 2012 will have a 5.5 biturbo...I thought it was still the 6.2L. I am leaning towards the exterior of the current model but the interior does look pretty nice in the 2012. And, I'm in total agreement that pricing on the new 2012 will be difficult to get until later next year.

I'm going to email him to see if he's willing to negotiate. I was surprised to say at least when his sale price was in that range since I was considering a used 2010 with 5k without the options (performance and lsd package) for 57k.

Thanks.

2012 is still the 6.2 liter engine.

I'd regret it, which is why I am waiting. But that's just me.

Lots of info in this thread:

63K for a brand new 2011 with a P31+LSD, that is some serious discount, I believe that in the US that same car is around 80K, here in Canada, the C63 starts at 64K and when optioned like the one you are looking at it hits around 81K. That discount is worth taking this 2011.

If you pay cash, definitely get 2011. Else, wait for 2012 model year.

This issue has been debated many, many times in this forum. The age old question should I wait. Well, life is to short, you might not make it to the fourth quarter. I debated this same issue, but the offer that I recieved for the car was to good to past over. If you have your heart set on the updated face lift then wait. But the offer that you presently have will dissappear, so you better decide quickly. The only opinion that really matters in all of this is yours, it's your decision..... so decide

Well, thanks for all the replies.

I had decided to go for the 2011 with the quoted price. However, I should've known it was too good to be true. When I contacted the dealer again and told him I wanted to put down a deposit on it and pick it up this weekend, the internet sales guy said he gave me the price for a different car, not the one I had specified. I'm not sure if he was trying to pull a bait and switch or what not, but that was disappointing.

At the price he quoted, it's a no brainer to just wait till 2012.

Bait and switch.. it is common..

Personally, while I do like the interior of the 2012, and the MCT.. I prefer the lines of the 2011.. They really.. for a lack of a better term.. feminized the lines, it just does not look as aggressive.

Yeah...seems that was the case.

But, after searching around, I found a 2011 C63 with 11k miles, CPO'ed and all the options except the Performance package, but has the LSD. I guess I can go with a tune to offset that option. Flying out on Friday to go pick it up. Hope to learn from you guys.

I would weigh into your decisions how long you keep your car. If you keep it less then 3 years, then you maybe all right picking a 2011 but if you keep your car for 4 or 5 years like I do, I would definitely wait for the 2012 even if it costs more money. The transmission and interior upgrade is worth it.
Post pics when you get it and welcome to the club

Well, this will be my 4th car in 6 years. I'm hoping that I will keep this car longer then that but so far, history has shown that I don't.

I will get pictures up as soon as I pick it up and drive the 8 hrs back home.

After the switch from the dealer's original quote, I'll say go for the 2012. That happened with me before 2 years ago. I wish I could obtained a written quote from the seller, he raised the price 4k above the original quote (for a 335i). I dumped the sale, and I got the C55 with low miles on it. No regrets, since the AMG-MB had a better interior, more power and exclusivity. My wife liked it more too.

I saw the photos of the 2012, and the interior is much better than the 2011's. I do mind the interior looks in my cars. In that sense, I'll wait 1 more year and use the time to save the money. Also, the MCT is a big plus IMO.

I wish I had your decision problems man... Good luck

So, I picked the car up today and drove it back home...8 hr road trip.

Man, the sound from the engine/exhaust is so intoxicating. I found myself just pressing it just to hear it...and I was passing people so easily.

I'm going to wash it tomorrow if I'm not too exhausted and will post up some pictures. I'm in love.

Just wondering though...I couldn't find the ESN for my Sirius XM for traffic updates. I was able to set up the audio portion. Any ideas?

Thanks. Yeah, I couldn't wait. Several factors pushed me over to just get it now since it seemed that the dealerships in my area weren't willing to deal on 2011's and I could only imagine the resistance I would get on the new 2012's.

I've got to put some pictures up but we've had some bad weather out my part. Been trying to clay and wash it but its been just way too humid and hot here.

Totally don't regret it...although I think I'm getting used to the sound now and its not sounding as aggressive as I first got it. At some point I would love to get headers and exhaust, but enjoying her stock for the moment.
