Highest Power on stock internals ??
Hi Guys,
I have finally made the swap from various GM muscle (Even though I live in the UK) to the almighty C63.....Which I love to pieces
I have always tuned and modified my cars and have easily seen north of 620BHP on stock internals for the LS3...
The C63 is a new beast to me and I will no doubt modify again but is there a danger benchmark BHP for Stock internals/Gearbox....I know there are many factors to consider and all modification carries risk etc.... but any feed back would be really cool.
Thanks

I had a 08 C6 Z06 (ls7 505hp or 513bhp) that I purchased new. I did QM 550 cam, LG motorsports long tube headers,Killer bee air filter ported throtle body, ported intake manifold, 3"H FC, tune and a stage II cylinder head work which included oversized valves, cnc , combustion chamber work etc, etc from Quality Motorsports in Dallas(Lewisville).
I am saying what I said above because I feel comfortable speaking on the LS3 despite that I owned a LS7 engine powered car.
620hp could easily obtainable on the C63. What really makes that gap between the LS3 and the M156(C63 engine) is that the LS3 has dozen of cams in the market to chose from. The heads are relatively easy to get them modified for a reasonable cost (Mine were $2500 to modify them).
In constrast, the C63 typical mods are just the tune, air filters and headers and that is why you don't see them past the 620bhp.
So , this brings me to the last subject. A C63 will get close to 600bhp with long tube headers, a good tune, air filters and perhaps a good flowing exhaust. The LS3 motors "north" of 620BHP that you see is because they have more mods than the M156 engine but make no mistake, the M156 now makes more than 620hp with the Weistec supercharger.
Just do LTH and just a tune on a LS3(no cams) and you will see how much superior the M156 is over the LS3 with the same mods. My stock C6 Z06 put down 457whp and 427lb-tq on a dynojet bone stock. I added the 1 7/8" long tube headers and air filter(killer bee) and I only gained 13whp (no tune).
The drivetrain lose on the C63 are vastly greater than on the C6 (LS3) with manual transmision but this shouldn't be an issue if we are just talking about crank power..

You would be surprise on how many cars now days incorporated the Tremec TR-6060, how about the Vipers with 600hp stock, or how about the ZR1s with 638hp or how about the Shelby GT500 with 550hp...
The answer is NO, the transmision is not the issue here.

I'm a bit confused....maybe I didn't explain well enough.... I know he capabilities of the GM stuff....but now I have a C63
My question is now that I have a C63 is there a power output that is considered the 'limit' for stock internals or transmission?
Anybody?
Thanks
