Drive Belt Noise at 10,600 miles?
Hi guys,
It seems after the car hit the 10,000 mile mark it started clicking from time to time. However, now it's starting to be more frequent at about 10,600 miles. So not sure if it's a Mercedes thing like the squeaking brakes but I wanted to see if any of you had the same problem and if so, how did you fix it? I did some research and some people suggest applying a belt dressing?
Thanks!

Car is an 08. Only thing is it's not frequent enough where I can show the dealer unless maybe I drop it off there and have them hear it in the morning because it tends to happen after a cold start.

I notice cars that arent being driven enough have more problems then cars that are being driven every so often. Could be coincidence?
So you drive the car around 3-4k miles per year? I couldn't do that even if I tried, especially with an AMG. Lol
I say drive the car around for a few days and see if the sound is still present. If it is then take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

AMG you are correct that's why I have been driving it more often lately and it seems it's not stopping. The rate of clicks increase as you apply throttle pressure so it has to be the drive belt, right? Otherwise I'm used to the normal ticks of the engine being cold yet before this happened, it used to just tick at a constant rate and didn't change w/o input of the throttle. That's a different ticking....lol
Basically I am trying to make sure you guys understand the difference here between the ticking noises. I'll take it in as soon as I get some time and find out exactly what's going on, I just assumed maybe someone had experienced this same issue and could shed some light on the topic for me before I take it in.....

It sounds like lifter clatter to me. The lifters can leak down oil when the car is sitting and will make a clatter when the car is started cold. Usually has to sit overnight at least for this to happen again on a restart. The clatter will increase as the rpms rise. If it goes away when the car is warm then the lifter has pumped up again to the proper oil pressure. This is not uncommon with hydraulic lifters like those used in the C63 AMG M156 engine.

If your car was an early 08, it could have been made in 07, and the belt would have been made some time before. So in theory..the belt could be 4+ years old. Not that old, but low mileage use will dry crack sooner. Flip the belt over with your hands, check for cracking/glazing, replace if necessary. Belt changes on mine are a 10 min affair, yours should be just as easy I assume.
