How will a C63 do for daily driving?

Well looking at purchasing a 2008+ C63. I'm thinking about it being a daily driver. How reliable would the car be as a daily driver? I live in S. Cali, so no snow for me

Also, anything I should look for or consider when looking at a C63?

Anything I should consider when looking at one? Like what are the problem areas I should be critical of?

Reliability should be fine. MBs are generally built to last.

Should be fine as a DD as long as you don't need a lot of room in the back seat, don't mind low gas mileage, won't be driving on really crappy roads, and don't mind the attention an MB draws.

I daily drive mine and haven't had any issues yet. She's fun in the rain but the ESC keeps you in check pretty well. Gas Mileage is terrible as a DD (it doesn't slip gas like corolla does), it does get abit harsh if your roads are bumpy, but at the end of the day, very capable DD.

I'm going to drive it in the winter (with winter tires), hopefully the I survive so I can keep this car!

How does the interior hold up? Any rattles or creaks?

Are there any specific problems to the 2008-2009?

I always say this when people are inquiring about buying these cars: check the level of wear on the tires and rotors/pads. Factor this into the purchase price because the need for an early replacement of these parts adds up.

Also, see if you can find one with a well-documented service history.

And I have found that these interiors do have some potential to rattle. Depending on where the rattle is it can be real annoying or no big deal.

Great DD.

Not good in places that get snow in the winter though. Have another car for those months or get some snow tires and even then it can get dicey.

I had an 09 C63 for three years and never had a single problem with it. It's a stellar DD. It has awesome and immediate power driving around town.

It's a great DD. The best part is to wake up in the mornings with the cold start.
The seat could be more comfortable but you should be fine.

How responsive is the transmission and has anyone had any sort of problems with it?

The transmission is the weak link in terms of responsiveness. It has been reliable for most though.

I purchased my 63 AMG in August of 09' and it has been my daily driver since then and when I say daily driver I mean it, even to do groceries and even for long trips. I also purchased a roof large box(XXL) it fits 14.5 cu feet of cargo that I use for additional cargo on long trips or even to carry anything up to 83" long and about 40 inches wide..

You should only be concerned about gas mileage but even for that I already proved the forum that the C63 can be reasonable if driven gently on C mode, I managed 17 mpg in city and 24-25mpg on HWY.

You might want to check the insurance premiums, I personally don't think that the C63 is expensive to insure. Tires could be an issue specially the standrad Pirellis but that you happen only the first time, 99% of the people on this forum choses to put different tires when the standard tires are bald, aim for something with high threadwear if you plan to make the tires last.

As far is reliability, my C63 has been reliable, I am at almost 20000 miles and I just service it for service B, brake pads still have another 10000-15000 miles to go. Best o luck with your purchase, the C63 is a terrific daily driver for sure.

Funnest DD ever!

I'm on my second C63. I've used both as DD to work. I commute about 30 miles/day. It's been reliable. It is tastefully understated and has all the power of a serious sports car. The only issues when using as a DD would be the poor gas milage and the need to replace rear tires after only a few thousand miles or so. MPG can be a concern if you do the average LA commute. If you don't mind these things, the C63 is an excellent car to drive to work everyday. I appreciate the Automatic transmission, placing on the "Chill" station on Satellite Radio through HK stereo, and the navigation and EMBRACE system luxury. It's a nice place to be in while commuting. I have to fill the car up approximately 1.5 to twice/week and have been through 2 sets of rears and almost thru a third set. I don't even drive aggresive or burn out in it. I rarely drive it in manual transmission or even Sport, or even turn off the traction control. I appreciate these things in an every day machine. If I didn't have another "fun" car for weekends, I would probably use Sport, Manual and disable traction control in my AMG. However, If I had to have just one car, the C63 would be up near the top of the list of choices.

^^ Glad to hear that I am not the only person that drives on C mode most of the time.Having to fill 1.5 to twice a week is a concern, my commute to work is about 7 miles one way. ^^ Good review by the way.

Looking at 08-09's as well. Hope you don't snipe one of them from me! I'm on the east coast though so prob won't be crossing dealers! I'm just as concerned but kinda throwing caution to the wind. I have to deal with snow in MD and will probably just stay home when it happens.

Actually, I believe I "proved" the mpg thing first, although it was more like an unexpected discovery. It's in my thread from last year titled "***25.2 mpg for C63 on the hwy. What's your best mpg?***" just sayin... and what was crazy was that I did it averaging like 72 mph or something like that.

The transmission isn't as responsive as a DCT/PDK, but it's decent, particularly when used in S mode (I only use C in the rain or on long trips when I'm cruising without passing). M mode is fine too, though you can notice the delay in shifting.

In heavy track use, the transmission is prone to overheating, but it protects itself and won't get damaged. Otherwise, it's reliable.

I did my move to my current place with my C63, and haul tables, chairs, and even a new 46 inch LED Samsung TV with it. So basically the C63 is not only a great DD, but a damn good delivery "van" too!

These cars are great DD, both my C & E 63s have both been DD since day one.
As everyone has mentioned fuel economy sucks, but that isn't why we bought these cars, for anyway. And they tend to eat rear tires, other than that...it's great. Being able to haul a** whenever the need strikes you. I commute about 50 miles a day, and I absolutely love my AMGs.

While I enjoyed my C63 as a DD I have since purchased a different DD and garaged it. I have to say I find even more enjoyment driving it now. Do yourself a favor and drive another car for about 2-3 weeks and then take out the C63 on a cool evening drive. You get to really experience what an anmial it is all over again.

28,000 miles here daily driven. Had the car for 2.5 years and still absolutely love it. I came from an 88 honda accord, 94 honda civic, and 03 evo, so this has been my most comfortable ride of them all. :o

my '10 is my DD.....and I enjoy every moment. No rattles or unintended noises. I've learned to enjoy my car every day rather than on weekends. Life is too short to have something in the garage (IMHO).
