If you could only do 1 mod for track days
Hey everyone,
What would be the best mod to do to our cars to improve the overall fun and performance factor for track days if you could only do ONE. Besides tires...

For a rookie, I would NOT recommend them anyway, as they simply allow a novice to get into trouble quicker. However for a good driver, tires are usually worth 2-3 seconds off their lap times. Depending on the track, and NO SINGLE other mod is going to even come close to this.
Keep in mind that with more power, one also needs more brakes, suspension, and tire.
If it were my car, I would look at sway bars first, then coil overs, then tires and rims, and then ECU.
PS: I am not sure if ANYONE makes bigger bars for the C63 as of yet.

thanks for all this, I have taken lessons and am signed up for the next course already. I'm hooked. I want to go about it the right way, take my time learn the car, technique etc. It's my daily driver so I don't want to do too much to the car. I will be changing to a race brake fluid and track tires for those days. The track where I go is very short and has lots of turns so I may look at sway bars too. Keep the info coming.

JeffDL and Duane are spot on...I just got back from Laguna Seca for the AMG Driving Academy basic course and the best money I will spend on getting better is taking the next advanced course. Nothing can help your speed more than consistent practice on track.

As far as the strut brace, purely cosmetic. You will never notice it there as there simply is NOT that much flex going on as the chassis is plenty strong enough already. After all this isn't a mid 90's stang that we are talking about

That's what I thought after I posted about them.

I agree that the strut tower brace won't make an impact but the chassis does need some help in the way of stronger sways. Coil overs help flatten things out as you can see in the picture below where Keith has KW's and I don't. Bottom line is that a good deal of lean can be introduced when you factor the grip from R compounds. This turn isn't very tight, it is a 100 mph sweeper and my car is about 5 degrees from level. Wish we had access to the parts available to the other brands.
Also, do you have a 3m clear bra or tape anything else than your lip for protection?
Thanks

I had a clear bra on my stock parts but I messed up the new front bumper pretty badly at Sebring before I could get a new bra. It was in the body shop last week and is back to perfect again. Clear bra will be installed as soon as the paint cures which will be before any more track duty. The grills are removed for cooling, that picture was during a 100 degree day and oil temps kept creeping into the 270's.
