Anyone Running Royal Purple?

Hey guys! 1,000 miles is creeping up on me quickly and I'm already planning my next move for the self-induced 2,000 mile oil change.

Has anyone run Royal Purple in their car? What have been your thoughts, experience, etc..

Would love to know exactly which product of theirs you are running.

Thanks!

Chris

I used it in the past but on a diferent car and I had no issues. I recommend that you don't do 2000 miles oil changes, it is too soon of an interval and you don't need it unless you are racing the car on a road course for hours otherwise for normal driving any synthetic oil will last very well between 5000 and 10000 miles.

I used to do the oil changes on my cars every 3000 miles but I stopped doing that because I realized that there was no real benefit but that is just my own opinion.

LOL yeah no worries...maybe I wasn't clear enough in my earlier communication...

Only doing an oil change at 2K due to break in...after that will commence normal 10K mile intervals

Thanks for your concern though!

I run it on my 300zx, i am changing to it on the Benz since Mobil 1 is not a true Group 4 synthetic oil, and with the additional stress that my recent mods do to internals, I just feel more comfortable running RP.

Or does it exceed MB specs

Talk to RP directly with any questions you may have. I have always found them to be extremely helpful.

Honestly, I really don't know if it will harm the engine but I highly doubt it will.

What is the issue with just running the oil MB recommends? I suspect they have done their research and know what the engine needs so what is the upside of using something else (other than just being different which is in many cases what the whole modding thing is about)? I can't imagine there are any real benefits of using something like Royal Purple vs. what Merc recommends.

I'm not engineer so I really don't know what I'm talking about here so I'm happy to be educated by those who know more... which is everyone

This is what really made me want to switch...take a gander and let me know your thoughts - well worth the 8 minutes and 44 seconds.

Royal Purple, IMO, is a far superior FULLY synthetic oil compared to the blended synthetic of Mobil 1. In simple terms, the issues that arise is in order for a dino to be considered a syn, a considerable amount of additives are used, this ultimately will break down quicker under use, leaving you with less heat protection.

RP meets all of the specifications (API, ILSAC, ACEA) that MB requires, they have just not ante'd up the bucks for MB approval (and have no intention of doing so). I will not lose one bit of sleep over running RP in my S55, and has absolutely nothing to do with "wanting to be different", and everything to do what is best for my motor.

I know we have quite a few people that will not travel outside the mb approved fluids, which I have no issue with, we are all entitled to our opinion, but to spearhead those comments that I am sure to receive, when that day comes that i grenade my motor (doubtful it will be from engine oil lubrication), i will not come crying back to the forum, i will just build a bigger and badder motor.
