Open Throttle, topped out
Hey guys,
Just a curious question, how often do you guys just really open up the throttle on your beasts? By that I mean something like top it out and hit the limiter (160 mph or so)? I drive the car fri's, sat's and sundays usually and at least once or twice a month, if i have some open road, ill like to just top it out for a few seconds and have some fun. Anyone else like to do that? Or is what I am doing very stupid and setting me up for some major engine problems down the road? Not sure so thot I would ask because I would hope that the car can handle that kind of speed often. Let me know your guys thoughts, is it completely stupid and insane or normal for an AMG to be able to handle it, thanks!

oh alright, and yea, i agree it isnt smart to hit the limiter but ill only top the car out in the dead middle of the night (usually after midnight) on an open freeway once in a while when there's almost no other cars around so Im not endangering anyone else. I was just wondering if anyone else has that kinda fun too and if in the long run, could it cause engine problems?

Is driving a car that can easily exceed 160 mph bad for the engine, assuming good gas is used and the engine is treated to regular oil changes? No, and specifically no for the C63.
But, it's really dumb and illegal on a pubic road, no matter the conditions.

Open it up. Yes, that is why we bought our cars, isn't it?
Top end, nope since I would hit north of 190.
You have to pick the places where you can let the monster go to its top end.
Most people that answered probably live in densely populated areas with lots of police around and I agree with them that it would be foolish to try it because you will end up in jail.
But if you try hard enough and find others like you, things can be arranged to avoid the law .
The best is to take it to a mile run, open run event or track.

Never hit the limiter or come close...and unfortunately dont open up nearly enough!!
North of 190 - what is done to that car? For a stock P30 I have to assume that's a stretch.

it was a sunday morning on fathers day and i was headed into town to go to brunch and there was no one on the road. i hit a good 5 lane stretch on i-30 that was freshly paved (my girlfriend was in the car by the way ) and i decided to unleash her. i got up to 165 before i backed off. that was the fastest i have ever been.....and when you are not used to going that fast.....that is f-a-s-t. my girlfriend was petrified lol. i have to admit, i was a little scared. the car was planted and i dont think i was out of the bounds of the capabilities of the car, i was outside of my comfort zone though.

The main issue is if something unexpected happened... tire issue, animal, whatever. At that speed reaction time is zero and anything goes wrong and someone doesn't walk away. I admittedly have done something similar one or two times (in Mexico) and after both times walked away telling myself I would not do it again. Decided my life was worth more than the cheap thrill and it is too easy for something to go wrong. Didn't want to end up being an internet statistic with pictures of my smashed car and lifeless body posted everywhere
The track is enough for me and at least when I'm there I have checked the car and tires out, am wearing a helmet and the environment is somewhat controlled (i.e. no animals, nothing over a crest that I can't see without a flag person warning me, etc).

gthal, I guess you weren't at the track when a pheasant went through the Porsche window on turn 8. Made a nice mess as it ended in the back seat and the windscreen shattered pretty good.
The look on #$#$# face was pretty wild.
So, wildlife is always a concern, even on the track :-)

AND, my son came close to running over a gofer in the Corvette in turn 9. I think in the mean time someone did actually run him down. That can upset the car pretty hard.
