Nitto 555 R(285/35/18) are total garbage (proven)

I am trying to divert you from having to spend $684 and be stuck in a situation worst that what I was. I put a set of Nitto 555r 285/35/18 on Thursday hoping that it will do the job to match my current mod set-up (look at my signature) but these tires proven to be the biggest pile of ***** I ever purchased.

After 25 passes (twenty five..not 24.. and not 23) the car never cut below 2.0 sec 60'. You next question would be? did you lowered the pressure? Yes I did, as low as 16psi. You next comment would be: That is too low!! you need more pressure.
The fact is that I played with the tire pressure on increments of 2 to 4 psi and I did big burnouts on the water pit and also on dry. Not only these tires proven to be POS but also slowed me down a few miles per hour when I lowered the pressure.

Your next concern would be: Were you launching it right?. I did everything I could, launched it in Manual mode, in Sport mode, with traction control off and traction control on Sport mode and off course I tried various rpms but no luck. I am going to try some Mickey Thompsons next time.

My fastest times and speeds were always obtained/achieved when I had the pressure above 32 psi. Botton line, this is a quick way to waste $684 on a set of tires that don't perform and wouldn't last long (they are rated to 100 threadwear).

On a different and positive note, my old worn out 275/35/18 nitto 555s (threadwear 400) with 11,200 miles use to put me on a 1.9 sec 60' any day of the week. These tires were significantly cheaper and off course lasted a long time (14700 miles to be exact), I just changed the tires this week when the car had 20200 miles(you can also veriied this on one of my old post).

I know that some of you are going to prove me wrong and show me that you did a 1.7 sec, which I believe. This set up just didn't work for me. What worked for me were the old worn out 275 Nitto 555S(brick tires) with 11,200 miles on it, at least I was able to do 1.9 sec often. With my current tires NOT ONCE.

The thing is that I have flash backs with other tires that I used in the past and I know regret o my current tire choice. I opted to install a BF Goodrich Darg Radials T/A II (275/40/17) on a BMW 335i that I had and I was always doing 1.8 sec which fully satisfied me and ultimately helped me to run close to 6 tenth quicker.

Weird very weird, !6-18 psi should be perfect for those you saying 32 was the best is scary I'm almost thinking the pressure gauge is broke

If you really ran with 32 you would/should've spun down the whole track

It would be even more scary if I disclose the trap speeds that I was getting with these tires and low pressure...you just don't want to know...

I had the competitions(new Mustang GT, Camaros and Shelbys) doing 1.8s on Mickey Thompsons and Nito NT 05s with thread wear 00.

I took a compact air compressor and a decent pressure gauge. Ironically the compressor had a built in digital pressure gauge that was spot on with the pressure gauge (analog). It is one of these proessional gauges from Sears(gauges is about 3" in diameter with a delation vavle)

It was hard to tell, the sound of the exhaust just completed overpowered any other sound. I had my windowds rolled up and my helmet on. I wasn't really going sideways. I just don't think I was spinning but instead I felt a lower/midrange bogging down which was very clear on every pass.

This happened(the bogging down) only during the launching because once in second gear the rpms were high enough and the engine was reving very happy.

Only from inside. I just set my camera on top of the center dash with a rag. Nothing that would show the car spinning or launching.

Actually, I owuld have to ask some of my friends, I think that someone filmed it on their Iphone. Not available right now though..

^^^^ I read your post in the past and I don't doubt them. It just didn't work for me. Maybe the track wasn't prepped right but I don't like excuses. The facts speak for it self. My older worn out 400 threadwear tires performed better with even more tire pressure. I lost 3-4 miles trap speed alone with just lowering the pressure on this Nitto 555Rs.... what else can I do? That is why I will try something else.
Eventually I will find a tire that works best.

So I gotta still ask, what were your ETs and trap speeds? At least the faster ones when you were running 32psi.

Lets just say that I was a solid 10mph traps over a new Camaro SS with headers, tune and air filter or 4 MPH higher than a Shelby GT 500(don't know what mods).
16 MPH more traps than a 2011 STI with Cobb Stage II or 12 mph higher traps than my friend's new M-3 with DCT transmission, headers back(Akrapovic) and air filter.

Must agree with your assessment of those tires. I bought them for my first trip to the drag strip after my first round of mods. I picked them up because I found them for a deal I couldn't refuse. Went to the track and could not hook up for the life of me. Ended up calling it a day and ended going with the CCW rear drag pack. Will NEVER buy those tires EVER again for any reason!

^^^ Sounds like I am not the only one. Next thing on my agenda are the Mickey Thompson of BF Goodrich or maybe the Nitto NT05
