Well, I can't either!
I can't reproduce it, but here's how it happened:
Started the car and pulled out of garage. It starts in C of course and 2nd. then put in P, stepped out and back in, switched to M while in P. when I put it in D, it started from 2.
I think it just goofed.
I think it's wired when a computer makes two different decisions in (seemingly) identical situations.
