IROC->3000GT->E36 M3->E46 M3->E90 335i

...and now W204.

Just wanted to introduce myself here....I got my C63 a few weeks ago and out of the "honeymoon period" but I find myself liking the car more and more each time I drive it.

It's a 2009 with all options except P3x....

Nice history of rides you got there, and congrats on the c63. What do you like/dislike about it compared to your previous M3s' and 335i?

Thanks!

Well, from a spirited daily driver perspective (I haven't seen a track in about 5 years), the C63 does almost everything better with the following exceptions:

1. It isn't nearly as beautiful as my old Imola Red E46 M3.
2. It does not disguise its weight as well when approaching corners.
3. Brake pedal feel is not as precise.
4. The turn signal stalk is in the wrong place and feels more primitive.
5. Unlocks all the doors with one click (But I do like not having to pump fake when getting out of the car).

And personality-wise, it isn't flirtatious like the Bimmers. Feels a little more formal....or perhaps more refined. The E46 M3 was Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, the 335i Cameron Diaz in Charlie's Angels....the C63, mean and purposeful like Lucy Liu in Kill Bill.

nice write up- I came from a 335i sedan and loved that car- had 2 m3's '99 and '02.

my only beef so far with the c63 is the autobox, the manual version doesn't respond very quickly, i can't "double click" to downshift 2 gears, instead, i've had to hold the - button until it shifts for me sometimes 3 gears, which is not what i wanted.

i.e. sometimes i just want to quickly use more power, but not 100%!

did your m3 have dct? how does it compare?

The OP had an E46 M3 and DCT started on the E92 M3. DCT is a lot better than the C63 MCT basing from my own experience.

doh, i should have read. e46.

thanks for the reply, that is one thing i cannot stand is the auto tranny shifts suck. i didn't try this on the test drive - at least you have the 2012, i have an 08 without the mct.

That's ok. I did forget about the 335i flappy paddle shifting being better (or at least quicker and firmer). I guess feeling that much stronger surge in the C63 is not a bad trade off?

By the way, before the 335i, I actually had 4 M3s...'95, '99...then an '02 3-pedal and '04 SMG...And I say that because I did spend a lot of time test driving E9x M3s, both 3-pedal and DCT*. Perhaps I test drove the E9x M3s very extensively trying to convince myself to stay "faithful" to BMW and like them...but look at what ultimately stole my heart.

*DCT is indeed very fast shifting...and very smooth. But it does not have the ferocity of the much-maligned (sometimes unfairly) SMG.

So you had a 160hp 3000gt right? because that is exactly what they are rated unles you want to elaborate and say: I had a 3000 GT SL(220hp) or a 3000 GT VR4(300 or 320hp) << I had them both. Had a 335i Coupe too.

A 160HP FWD car would have been a hoot coming out of the IROC. But yes, it was a VR-4...spec-wise and feature-wise, it seemed ahead of its time but the ingredients just didn't seem to add up to a very saisfying meal. So it was very easy to get seduced by the E36 M3.

In your same boat right now..had a bunch of cars, have a 05' e46 m3 (smg) currently & love these C63's...Im on the fence still but leaning heavily towards the C63. While owning the family-boat (GL550), their is just no comparison to a Benz.

Well, if you've had your M3 for a while, a C63 will definitely spice things up. I drove E46 M3s for 9 years and I don't miss them at all.

P.S. - back in the 80's, those black bad-*** Buicks always made me feel like C3PO in my Camaro.

.
If the E9x M3 had the same power and made the same noise, would you have remained a BMW faithful? I sure like how the M looks over my C.

Yes...but BMW would also have to include the better seats and more consistent/superior steering feel.

M3s were unquestionably the "only choice" back in the E36 and E46 days...the E9x has the problem of much stiffer competition where people have to add "...on the twisties or on a track..." to justify it. And probably as much as AMG dialed up the visceral aspects on the C63, the M division ratcheted them down for the E9x.

From a looks perspective, I actually prefer the C. To me, it seems to have a lot more presence (it's just too bad they didn't give the rear fenders more flare).

I enjoy my M3 but it lacks in straight-line performance...and I am more of a straight-liner...and of course, nothing beats the Benz interior & the curb appeal...I think the C63's look really mean from the back.

As for my old Buick...well, it's just an all-out straight line beast, went a 9.55 once (no cage) then got the boot
