Cars.
The P31's extra HP isn't something you can get from the dealer. It has to be built into the car because it's all about the engine internals.

True and false. Dealer can only update via Mercedes Germany internet hook-up to VINs that have P31 packages. Not your dealer's jurisdiction.

Dealer can sell you a C63 with the P31 option from the factory. Only way I think or a used C63 with that option package.

You are mistaken. The extra hp doesnt come at all from engine internals. Its only because of different ecu programming. But it is true you wont be able to get it from the dealer, even if the dealer was willing to do that he cant.

Don't you guys know anything about your own cars. Your dealership can't give you 30 extra HP. The extra HP comes from lightweight internals such as the forged Pistons, Rods and Lighter Crankshaft borrowed from the SLS AMG. It saves 6.6 lbs and reduces rotational inertia, for a better engine response. Also the engine's managment system (ECU) has been tweaked to account for the lighter components..... DUH

Wait so you are saying your E63 has the upgraded internals that are coming on the new C63 Performance Package and thats why it has 508hp? if so, I say this with all due respect but you are wrong. Non performance package C63 can make the exact same power as the E63. The C63 is just detuned from the factory. Thats why C63 guys gain so much on a tune compared to all the other 6.2l AMG cars.

"The extra HP comes from lightweight internals such as the forged Pistons, Rods and Lighter Crankshaft borrowed from the SLS AMG. The C63 is not the same motor, similar internals, which means it would be interesting if you could tune a new 2012 C63 P31 close to the 560hp or so the SLS AMG makes. I bet you can

I didn't say anything of the sort. Maybe this has been taking out of context or I'm not understanding the question here. Is the question that is being asked here, is if both the C63 and E63 has the same engine, why can't the 457 horses (C63) be increased to match the 507 hp that the E63 currently has? Could it be simply a ECU upgrade or programming? If that is the question being asked. Then I apologize. I thought the question was increasing the current HP rating to that of the performance package of 480 HP.

And you are correct, AMG did detune my C63. 51 HP / 22 ft/lbs less than my E63. The C63 utilizes the same block, heads, piston rods, and crank as the E63, the bedplate is different, the engines are very similar probably like 98%.

I do not believe that. That might account for less hp loss from crank to the wheels, but it doesnt account for the extra 30hp. Extra 30hp I believe comes only because of the ECU tweaking.

Well that is what AMG is saying, makes up the performance package. Their words not mine. I agree with you, way can't the same engine push out the extra 50 or so HP with a ECU tweak. I'm not willing to swap ECU, to prove it.

Mercedes C63 amg, Bmw X5,
I dont know, if I didnt sell my c63 with p30, I would actually consider putting p31 ECU into the car to see what would happen=)
