Ceramic Brakes ? Lifespan?
Do the C63s have a ceramic brake option and how long do they last? Do they last longer then the general amg brake set up?

Ok cool. I was not sure. I was talking to a guy about his and he mentioned that his C63 has every option available they they offered on his 09 and said something about ceramic brakes, I guess it was talking about the pads.

The C63 does not have ceramic brake rotors even as an option. (Not sure about the Black Series, the SLR, or SLS. The advantage of ceramic rotors are they do not fade, have superior stopping power on a street car as they do not need to be warmed up to work, they last up to 100,000 miles, they weight half as much as steel rotors, and don't transfer as much heat to the calipers reducing the tendency for brake fluid to boil when over heated. The bad news is they are crazy expensive. Even the cheapest ceramic brake option on the Boxster is $8K going up to almost $9K on the Turbo. Replacement ceramic rotors on a Porsche cost $4K each. Extra care must also be taken when removing or installing wheels as ceramic rotors can be chipped. Most Porsche owners that track their cars replace the ceramics with traditional steel rotors with hard track pads as they designed to work better when properly warmed up under track conditions. They are cutting edge braking technology but may not be cost effective.

Good deal. Thanks guys. The car Im looking at has the performance package so I was not sure what all it came with. I know the upped the top speed, tuned the suspension, and did something with the brakes but was not sure.

If it is pre 2010 it's the P30 package with no power upgrade but also has LSD. If its 2010 or later it most likely the P31 package with does have the power upgrade but no LSD. Ask for the build sheet to find out for sure.

In the resale market the P30 package doesn't command much of a premium over the base model. Keep that in mind during your negotiations. The LSD is nice to have as are the brakes. The most common complaint is the suspension is a bit stiff with the 19" wheels that are prone to road damage.

If you're really interested in upgrading, call Brembo. They make the CCs for MB, Ferrari, etc., and they'd definitely be able to help you (maybe not MB OEM stuff, but definitely stellar fitment).
