K&N or not.

K&N or not.
I spoke with one of the vendors here who did all the work on my car. I ask him about putting K&N's in it. I've had them in every hot rod I've ever owned. He told me not to do it, something about the oil from the K&N's messing up two senors, one on each bank of the engine that run about $400 ea. Anyone familiar with this? Any and all help will be appreciated.

You are posting on the C63 subforum, are you talking about your C300 or a C63?. I had a set of K&Ns and did the job for me. What you are refering to is the oil from the air filter messing the air flow sensors but it is a bit exagerated. In the worst case scenarios there is a spray cleaner specifically for the sensors.
You should be OK with the K&N filters. Lets us know if this is for your C300 or for a C63. Do a search in my name, I did reported great gas mileage adter installing the K&n but I also hada CEL that caused my engine to have vibrations. Dealer reflashed back to stock and put paper filters and problem dissapeared.

It seems the to K&N or not to K&N (that is the question) threads will never end. Stock paper filters flow good, have no oil. K&N's flow slightly better, but have oil and risk messing up sensors if not cleaned properly etc. I would personally suggest AEM Dry Flow which in opinion will flow slightly better then stock, but has no oil and no chance of messing up a sensor.

I have ran K&Ns in nearly all of the 49 cars I have had. Never once have I had a MAF fail because of them. This includes 4 Mercedes-Benz powered cars as well.

I just recently switched to AFE Dry Flows in the CLK55 to try them out. The quality of the filter is great. However the fitment was not as good as the K&Ns. But reoiling is a PITA, so it is a compromise I am willing to accept.
I really wouldn't worry about new K&N's, it's when they are over reoiled that they may become problematic. If you are still worried about it though, buy the AFE Dry Flows.

I have K&N's, at first I was getting CEL every 100-200 miles, after a month, I sent my ECU back to eurocharged and informed them I had K&N's, they integrated it into the tune, and I haven't had any problems since.

I've had Mann paper filters come apart at the edges. Just adding this. Really annoying, but what should I expect for $15.00?

K&N's provide no benefit. They flow marginally (and I do mean marginally) better when they are clean, but they filter worse so you get more silica in your oil.
When they get dirty, they flow less than a dirty paper filter.
In other words, there is absolutely no reason to run one. Any power gained will be so small as to be unnoticeable and you have to deal with cleaning and getting the right amount of oil, etc.
the stock filters work great and are cheap.

I have used them on most of my cars without a problem.
Some of them however do ship with a bit to much oil.
So i always just use an air gun and blow therm off for a few seconds before I put them in.
Nothing crazy just 2 or so blasts per side..

Have K&N and my car sounds just a bit louder upon acceleration and louder initial bark on start up...2000K miles no issues. They fit like a glove in the air box. And had no oil issues...

K&N says not to use compressed air as it can damage the filter material. If you suspect there is too much oil it might by better to pat it down carefully with a paper towel.

The only time I've seen it happen is when people over-oil the filters. K&N makes a good product and I've ran them on almost every vehicle I've ever owned, starting with my GoPed when I was 12 years old.
aFe also makes a good product. Fitment is OEM level. I can get you either one.

Send me a PM on price, please sir.
