hello, new member, E60 M5 owner thinking about switching to 2012 C63!

hi everyone...

can any of you new 2012 c63 AMG owners comment on wether you would make this switch if you were me?

i love my M5. its blacked out, over 15000 in upgrades put into it since i got it...

but it has only 16 months left on the certified warranty and im thinking now might be a good time to get rid of it.

originally i had planned to upgrade to the F10 M5 which is due out this spring, but im in canada and ive heard its going to cost ALOT!!

... like 135-140K $CAN all taxes and options in.!!!

i can get a brand new C63 AMG coupe with all options (premium package and AMG performance package) for $50,000 less!!

(would definatly be getting the AMG package and premium package..)

im aware these are 2 different classes of vehicles, one high rev'ing V10, other - hi torque monster...

but i checked out a black, 2012 c63 coupe today and thought it was an absolutely gorgeous car...

pics just dont do this car justice.

a pic of my ///M5 (is this allowed here???)

Wait for the 2013 C63 black series. With the right mods and a weistec supercharger, that thing will rape any BMW in the 600-700HP range. Stick with E60 M5 for now. By the way, it looks good, your taking really good care of it

From having the m5 and the C63, I would make the move to the C63. Test drive if you haven't but the torque is a huge plus in these cars. Plus the transmission in the C63 is much better honestly.

Think you are making the right move.

I am in a similar boat....I have a 2011 M3 I'm likely going to sell to get into a 2012 C63...I have gotten mixed advice on the move. For reference the M3 (no thread hijack here)

I'm in and out of cars A LOT and love the M3, she's just missing 60-70 HP...my biggest fear is the HUGE hit the AMG cars tend to take in value.

M5 looks great, wouldn't your M5 walk a C63 on the highway?

As one who has had the E60 (& E61) M5, do the switch. The gearbox alone is worth it..Powerwise you're pretty much even though, unless you go for the BS.
And that's a nice M5 btw

This is my old one:

C63 Edition 1 Coupe
I just sold my M6 to get a 12' c63 coupe, i ended up getting the edition 1 with the p31 and i can say im happy with the switch. The transmission on the c63 is much better. Torque is amazing compared to the M (and i havent put car in Sport or Sport Plus and i have yet to floor the car... breaking it in) I loved my M6 but i like to switch cars very often and im happy with my switch overall. As far as overall speed in my M6 with exhaust, and scoops i pulled on my buddies 09 c63 from 80 to 140, only a car length. I feel as if the extra 30 hp now and better transmission that a race on freeway would be very close.

Not trying to be rude, but if you are going to sell your M5 i would sell it before the F10 M5 hits dealers because when it does your car will take a little bit of a hit.

Cars.
I don't think you'll regret it. The C63 is an awesome daily driver and a car that can go to the track every once in awhile. Now, it's no M3 in the handling department(Pretty damn close though) but it's more fun, more of the time.

I'd aslo suggest you trade now also before the F10 drops. You're going to take a hit on the trade anyways just off the fact the newbody is almost here BUT the sooner you can unload it, the better!

Your M5 is beautiful but by all accounts, the 63coupe is a real monster so you can't lose!

Even though the C63 with or without PP is a great engine, I'm sure the V10 is off the charts in the high rpms. I've read that the heads alone on the V10 are phenomenal and flow better than the heads on the M156.

But, heads aren't on one's mind every day. The C63 coupe should handle better than your M5 and people say the MCT trans is better than the SMG. Probably a matter of personal taste, though. I for one, would like a hard-hitting trans.

The size of the car seems to be the biggest difference. M5's seem long. So, there should be less room inside the C63 coupe.

Anyway, you can't go wrong with trying out the C63 coupe if you have had your fill of the M5. Btw, your M5 looks very nice and clean.

One big difference with the coupe is that the M5 fits back passengers. I sat in a regular coupe i'm 6ft (180 cm) and i had to tilt my head because it hit the roof. The Sedan seems to have a lot more room if it's needed.

100% agree. I drove BMWs for 16 years (4 M3s and a 335) and with less than 8 weeks in the C63, there's no looking back for me. To be honest, this car actually feels more BMW than the newer BMWs.

Not to slam the E9x M3s, they are epic cars, but what I really don't care for is their "Jeckyll and Hyde" personality. Dr. Jeckyll is too docile (and 328-ish) while Mr. Hyde's risk/reward ratio in everyday street driving isn't acceptable.

C63 is like a feisty Rottweiler...generally obedient but you're always aware of the power as it tugs on the leash.

C63 Edition 1 Coupe
When debating to get the C63 coupe or to stick with bmw because my prior 2 cars were bmw and i loved them. A big factor in deciding was just the fact that BMW and Mercedes aren't going anywhere anytime soon. They will be around for ever hopefully, but i figured i could always switch over to the c63 coupe now and in a couple of years if bmw has a car i like more then i could always switch back.

As you can tell im not a bmw hater, i loved my other 2 cars and im an equal fan. But i will say i absolutely love my new car right now... 120 miles till im done breaking it in and i can punch it.

I'ma a 10+ year BMW driver and do feel BMW is straying away from what it was and MBZ is becoming what BMW should be. It's like the rolls are reversing.

yeah the m5 sure has tons of room, i have the seat well back and tilted back a fair bit, and i can get in the back seat behind the drivers and still have lots of room for myself, and im about 6 feet. the trunk you can practicly sleep in.

that being said, i think there were 2 occasions during the 7 months that i had the m5 that i had people in the back... so ....

although the 4 doors were usefull for carrying stuff, but ill still have my 330i for those functions

i did sit in the c63 coupe, and briefly backed it out of the stall, the seat lowers quite alot, which was a good feature, i lowered it to the lowest setting and i had an inch or so of clearance for my head, a helmut might be a tight fit though.

as far as the m5, one thing ill miss is the fierceness of the gear shifts when in M mode, and the hardest setting - s6. its hard to describe, you just have to experience it . its just pure "savagery".

made it feel a bit faster than it was i think

and yeah the gearbox is jerky and clunky around town.. but the engine is silky smooth...

it will always be a great car.

I understand your comment about the fierceness of the shift. Last time I got pipes on the car, an M-6 was there to get a tune and you used the correct word about being a savage.
It really is an experience someone should at least have once. It is pure awesomeness.
However the reality is that my tuned C63 was faster while being much smoother. Just a different kind of beast.
I feel thru your posts that you already have your mind set up and your are eager to jump in a new car. So do it and don't look back. You will be happy with it. Get the P31 package so you won't have to worry about warranty.

Even with a tune warranty shouldn't be much of a concern (at least in the US, don't know how it works in Canada). I have had 4 e39 M5's (my all time favorite car...) and e60 M5, an e46 M3. The c63 doesn't quite have the track prowess of the m3 especially the e46 (just my opinion, the e46 was so much fun at the track), but will be better than the e60. Hard to compare the two, if you are worried about depreciation you may want to consider an edition one, they are limited to 100 coupes and 60 sedans so the hit may (just guessing here) not be as bad...

Another thing to consider as well is if you want turbos or not. I am a big fan of NA cars, likely most are on the way out. What may be big depreciation today may not be so bad in a couple years when all monster power is due to forced induction.
