Sorry, I meant the Service Repair manual not the owners manual.

I do not believe one exists for our car as of yet.. or it is a tightly held secret by MB...

There are a few of the online (you pay a subscription fee) that say they have C63... but till you pay them.. you cannot see what it looks like, the samples they provide are always of mustangs or something..

Mercedes does in fact sell a service manual DVD, I bought one for my E63 a few years ago. Call your mercedes parts department, I paid $210 for it, it lists all the major components of the car, it contains illustration and torque specs. It's really nice for anyone that DIYs their car.

Don't waste your money on the Startek. Bought the one day subscription and it was useless. No torque specs, far from a manual.

The StarTek (epc.startekinfo.com) you're referring to is the free subscription for parts and vehicle data, not repairs. I also have the free subscription and used it extensively to search parts and to get actual factory data on my C63 and soon to be delivered ML63.

Doesn't match what I see in STAR TekInfo. I just bought the 24hr subscription and launched WIS/ASRA, entered my VIN and was able to drive down to the various systems to get to the torque values for the oil filter cap, oil cooler drain plug, and oil pan drain plug.

I grant you the interface is very difficult to navigate, but all the tech data is there.

Mercedes will not publish a service manual for public distribution until the car is out of production for 18-24 months. No paper versions are available - I have the W203 service manual on DVD. IIRC, it was ~$200 and could only be ordered from the 1-800 Mercedes number. Most dealers (unsurprisingly) will not sell it.

The W203 version is pretty good, with detailed procedures, plenty of photos and all necessary part and tool numbers, but it assumes that you already know certain procedures.

No one is shooting themselves in the feet selling the service manual.

The clientele is rather small when it comes to repairing our own AMG vehicles, and since most of the parts are only available from MB, they are not really losing anything.

They make their money charging for labor. That's what they don't want to lose.

Exactly. Mercedes won't lose anything, but the dealers will, and we all need to understand that the dealers are really Mercedes' customers.

The dealers will lose very little.. as I said before.. those of us willing to work on our very expensive vehicles are an extreme minority, probably less then 1% of the people who own MB vehicles.

While it is true that they make their money on labor, the chances that someone who is actively looking for the service manual to service their own vehicle beyond the basics (oil changes, fluid changes etc) would actually take their vehicle to a dealer over an independent MB repair facility is minimal.

So again, the dealer is not likely to lose much, if anything at all.... Except in the case where the owner or independent f's up royally and has to take it to the dealer

TIme to rant that lack of an available paper service manual is my biggest beef with MB. They have alienated me as a enthusiast. Why put out a German hotrod without a manual? For many half the enjoyment is maintaining the car. Does MB really think they are selling to the same crowd as many of the other tamer models? The parts prices I can swallow, not the "I've got a secret" BS.

Nice car but I wouldn't have bought it had I known MB would try to force me to the dealer by withholding the service manual. My first and last MB!

Seriously, there are dozens of threads, and google.. and parts stores. Unless your info is wrong, you have a 2004 C230 Kompressor, there is a Chilton manual available for 01 to 07 C classes. There is alldatadiy.com which is an online service (costs about $20 a year or so, and is well worth it). Or you can go to the dealer, and purchase the DVD for about $60 to $100.

Most manufacturers are putting our service manuals on digital media.

Typically after market third party publishers come out with books and digital media based service manuals a few years after a model goes out of production (at least that is how it appears to me).

I just called the dealership closest to me and was directed to call the 800 number for MB. I called that number and requested a service manual for a 2010 C63. I was just told that the only way to get the service info is to subscribe to startekinfo.com. The DVD/CD is no longer available.

I have been told the same thing, but I bet if you have a good relationship with a dealer parts guy, he can find something for you (no longer available does not necessarily mean does not exists)
