Almost got rear ended today :(
I was driving on 347 ( basically a hwy with lights). I stop for the red (1st car). All of a sudden I look back and see an old corolla sliding with wheels locked ( what a screech!!) I didn't have time to think so I floored the car right through the intersection running the red. Car has 150 miles and went full throttle (

At least your car is fine and you're safe. Still a very risky move. You could have hit someone crossing your path and that would have been worse. The cars engine is least of your worries it should be fine.

Back in the 80's my father pulled to stop behind traffic on the freeway just after he had passed over the crest of a hill. He then looked in the rearview mirror and saw a semi with the brakes locked up and sliding towards him - he had just enough time to floor it onto the shoulder before the semi slammed into the car that was in front of my dad. Ended up killing the occupants of that car and severely injuring the ones in the next car forward.
Always give yourself an out if possible when pulling to a stop - especially if it's an unexpected place where you are stopped. I drive a motorcycle too, so I am looking for escape paths constantly while riding...
Glad to hear no one was hurt this time.

had a similar thing happen to me a month ago in san antonio... it was a little wet outside and me and a friend were on our way to the cars and coffee meet (coffee and rides as they call it in SA)... we were coming to a yield sign for cars coming off a ramp... he slowed and stopped... i was about 10 cars behind him and i was slowly coming to stop as well... after i had stopped i looked in my rear view mirror and i saw a car sliding towards me with his wheels locked to the right to try and go onto the shoulder but he was still moving straight, i quickly turn my wheel left and stepped on the throttle just enough to move a few feet to the left and not hit the concrete wall while trying to get away... right before he got close to me, his tires got traction and he veered right as i was moving left... my heart was pounding for a while after that...
my friend had already moved on pass the yield sign and i called him to ask if he saw it... he said yeah, that s**t was crazy close... good job getting out of the way

I was rear ended at a red light in 2010. My father also did a burnout with my car at 50 miles. You're fine. I hit 6k revs on it everytime I drive since 20mi. As strong as ever. Glad you are safe.

As far as I know. Your breaking in the transmission to 1000..not the engine!

The engine is redlined at the factory. Your engine is fine, all that matters is you're ok. Riding a motorcycle has taught me to scan the road constantly. You always have to have a way out- just in case.

Great escape man. Now that you can relax a bit, how did it feel punching it? I know you loved it! If you thought that was cool, just wait till you put ESP in Sport mode and transmission in S or S+ or M (I'm assuming you were in C). Then hang on.

Scary stuff. I also ride a motorbike and you have to train yourself to always consider that no one has seen you. On a bike the worst scenario is wet roads, at a stop sign near a school at the time school is ending and the mothers are rushing to pick up their kids in their 4WD. Man that can be dangerous.

Sorry about that guys. I had a horrible last 2 days. The car felt great, even though the tires absolutely suck!! I also used to ride bikes so I'm always scanning my surroundings.
Anyways. Yesterday I heard a creak while driving, it resonated through the whole car. So I went to the dealer, they looked at the car for over 4 hours and finally saw the left motor mount destroyed! They gave me a loaner right away and ordered the mount. Car should be ready today or tomorrow.
MB of smithtown is amazing. Service is great and the people that work there are also fun to talk to.
On top of all this huntington called me and flipped out that there aren't any cat's in the s4, so I had to purchase 2 OE replacement cats and bring it to them, cost me $300! then they want me to pay 3 hours of labor to weld them in. This shows even though they're owned by the same family, smithtown and huntington are night and day when it comes to customer service. I could have easily told them it's there problem, but I have too big of a heart.
