2ndary cars + resonator replacement question

Hi All,

Sorry that this might be a noob question as I did try to search but cant find the specific answer.

I current have removed my secondary cat and have straight pipes, resonator still in tact. However, car does sound quite raspy.

Question is, to make it less raspy and more smooth should I:
1) X-pipe the secondary cat instead of straight?
2) remove resonator and replace with X-pipe
3) remove resonator and replace with straight pipe (all straight piping through)
or 4) x-pipe secondary cat and x-pipe resonator

Please chime in! Want to know first hand feedbacks on your experiences.

Thanks

If you want more smooth and less raspy replace the 2ndary cats with an X pipe and replace the resonators with straight pipes.

Put in an xpipe for sure, will immediately improve things. If you remove the resonators you will probably get a louder note of that matters. I have done many iterations in my exhaust from 1) stock 2) Vath remote control (great!) Eisenmann race that has no resonators (great to start with but ukimately way too
droney -avoid) Eisenmann race with longtube headers, 100 cell cats no secondary cats ( absurdly loud when go anywhere near accelerator and even more droney) and now have headers, the 100 cell cats, a combined foot long resonator+xpipe and them just the original AMG mufflers. This is the best set up at least for those of us with headers.

I have the same set up on my CLK Black Series ie no secondary cats and it is awesome. bit more volume, better note and even slightly more power. It will take about 30-60 mins for any decent shop to do this.

Ya I love the set up personally, louder but still the same kind of tone, the downshifts sound amazing now. I noticed slight power gain, harder pull. And the shop took about 40-45 minutes to do it

I find that you need to use Smart brand vehicles for secondary cars, anything else is just too big and would look funny under the car :P (sorry, each thread needs at least one wise *** )
