question about keyless go
what should happen if the engine is running and you exit the car and someone jumps in and takes off with your car, shouldn't the car stall or something like that when it doesn't detect the key?
i tried it out and on the cluster says key not detected but my buddy was able to take off with the car and went all the way around the block!!

Kind of a safety hazard if u think about it. No keyless go system that I've tried out will ever shut off the engine of a running vehicle if the key is no longer present. Doing so could potentially cause an accident in traffic.

The system is designed, as I've heard it, to let the car keep running if / as the battery gives out in the key (making the car think the key's disappeared)

Perhaps eventually the car would shut off after some time? I am curious too about this, have no idea. Because if it is the battery dying concern, the driver can always just insert the key into the ignition and keep going. So it would make sense if it just shut after a certain time if someone was to keep driving the vehicle without key being detected.

It will tell you the key is missing, but it doesn't turn off. My BMW was the same way.
Cars turning off without a driver telling it to is a liability; see Chevy Cobalt.

That's what I figured. This particular S63 is turning off if I start it then leave the car with the key. If I start it, move it, park it, then leave it will stay on. Or if I start it, leave but come back in right away, then it will stay on??????

my wife bananas! :D
if the car is on and the key is removed from the car, the car functions as normal... you drive it as far as you like, use all its amenities like radio and windows.... but once you turn it off.... obviously it wont turn back on.

I just had a dead battery on my key and it couldn't detect it. I got worried it might shut off so I took the button out of the ignition and threw the key in and turned it. Even more was I concerned if it would have a adverse reaction and lock up the steering wheel. Mind I was doing this while on the freeway, but no one around and on a straight path.
Long story short, when I shut off the car, I had to press in the ignition like it was using the start button. basically the car stores the session as if you pressed the button and having in the key is meaningless after you start it with the push button.
starting the car with the remote function is as good as leaving the key in the ignition and letting the car run, so I don't think there's a reason why anyone should expect Mercedes to build in a shut down procedure should it fail to detect the key at any point after the initial start.

Our old 2007 CLK63 had keyless go.
After a few meters the alarm just sounded and the hazards came on. Car never switched off though.
