Surprise race with 911 Turbo Cab

Driving home yesterday in Vancouver. I turned right onto a street and the 911 turned left onto the same street so we were side by side. I downshifted into 2nd and he gunned it. So I put my foot through the floor. I was actually really surprised at the fact I was pulling on him to top of 3rd before we had to stop for a light. I can honestly say not even at the track have I felt my cars power like that. Can't fully explain it but it felt like a bunch of extra power. I must of been at the perfect RPM at that exact time. C63's rule!

the m156 knows......it knows.

i dont race much but ive had the same thing happen to me. i raced a suzuki 600 on the highway and i have no idea where all that power came from but we were dead even. i was cruzing at 110 mph (it was like 12:00 pm on wide open road) and that crotch rocket came up to me and i floored it all the way to 160 and then let off.

the guy on the bike just looked at me and shook his head in disbelief. i couldnt believe it either????? it was fun though

What variation turbo? 996? 997.1? 997.2?

I can see it happening with a 996 and maybe a slouch 997.1tt driver but only a non competing driver in a 997.2TT with pdk would have lost.

Of course anything can happen on the streets- so nice pull.

Good for you, and I'm sure it was a lot of fun, but a 911 turbo should pull pretty good on a C63 (unless you have some serious work done).

He was probably granny shifting. Not double clutching like he should.

I agree ... especially a 2nd gear pull where the TT has all the traction in the world ... plus the faster shift of the PDK into 3rd and it's bye bye. I've never owned a car that pulls so brutal and behaves so civilized ...

Sans PDK, what other differences are their between the 997.2 and 997.1?

I think there is a intercooler difference?

Was it a 996TT?
A stock C63 cant hang with a 997TT, especially one with the PDK transmission.

2009 C63
It almost has to be an older gen 911 Turbo. I had a brief run in with a 997TT coupe and that thing pulled hard. He got the jump as I wasn't expecting a race but even by the time I floored it, it was apparent to me that there was no way in hell I was going to put up a significant fight. Was pretty cool being behind him though because at the end of that short 6 or 7 second burst, his turbos were glowing bright orange!

X2, a 997.2 with PDK will pretty much destroy a C63. OK, maybe NOT destroy BUT the way they hook (AWD) and their torque, its pretty much a non-race. Even a mediocre driver in the a 997.2 with PDK and the overboost function should be able to beat a C63. Vic ought to know, he's got one!!

If this helps narrow it down. It was the metallic dark brown and it had the LED driving lights. It all happened so fast I'm not too sure what it was exactly. He lives 2 blocks from me so I'm sure I'll see him again. It was a race from 50kph to 55kph (kidding, of course I wouldn't speed on public streets) all I saw was turbo on the back as I had to brake hard to duck in behind him to make my turn for my street. Just found out our track opens April 16th. Can't wait to back out there

You sure it wasn't the headers? The turbos are almost impossible to see, tucked up and directly behind the exhaust. The headers hang down under the car, and are known to glow orange/red/purple when the car's being pushed (especially aftermarket ones).

Here's an example (skip to 32 seconds in, if you want). The turbos don't change color, but the headers sure do Video:

Is the C63 stock? I ran a 997 TT 6spd. from a slow roll. We were pretty much even to 100+. The Porshe had a passenger though. Funny after the run he didnt even look over.

Raced a 2001 Lambo Diablo 6.0 V12 . Granted its an old car, but the look on his face when we took off from 70-120 and I was pulling hard with a passenger and my golf clubs... was PRICELESS!

A 600cc sportbike is fast compared to most cars but that insane acceleration will start to taper off quickly after around 130mph. I have never had a 600cc gixxer but I believe (stock) they cap out around 150mph.

Also if you started at 110mph, my money would be on you if the race lasted 10 seconds or more.

I own a liter Yamaha R1 (modded) so the same story would have ended differently....with any liter sportbike actually, but I've had modded cars (z06 not too long ago) reel me in fast after I had a sizeable lead from 10mph-150mph.

My first post and I'm babbling (haha). I can't wait to get my c63 (2012 w/dev pkg) in 3 months!

Congrats and look forward to hearing about your C63 and seeing some pics.

Lots of info and entertainment online to arouse your curiosity and keep you amused. Still the wait is tough. The last delivery adventure will tracking it on the boat over.

You are going to love it.

Thanks buddy!

I had a chance to test drive the car, as did my wife. I don't think I've ever seen such a big grin on her face before after driving a car before.
