When did you start noticing the noise? Does it contiune to make the noise even when the engine is at operating temp?
I hope Mercedes fixes that... That's a terrible sound!

Oil used (weight and brand) No idea.. Just bought the car used few weeks ago. I asked them if they put in 0-40W and they just kept on telling me they put in the spec weight that MB recommends. =(
When did you start noticing the noise? I last drove the car last wed? And didn't notice the sound before. Started it up today and I heard it.
I bought extended aftermarket warranty for 3yrs. It should be covered right? Car is all stock as far as I know.

I've heard ticking sounds form other C63s... but yours is especailly loud. Did you check your oil level? MB recommends 5W40 now.
Usually the noise goes away when the engine is at operating temp.

Yea I heard the usual ticking sound, but this was extremely loud. I did warm it up to 190ish and drove it around the block but the sound was still the same. I never noticed it this loud before. Haven't got around to checking the oil level. Will do that tonight. I did check it last week and wasn't low.

Stuck lifter.
or
You Cam chain adjusters are gone...
But I think its a stuck lifter..
I have heard mine do that once... I let it warm up and took it out for a good beating.. As soon as the oil pressure came up, the noise went away.
Does the sound increase and decrease with engine speed?? Make a vid with you slowly increasing engine speed up and down. sounds like its coming from the drivers side bank.

As Merc Mentioned leave the camera there and rev it a tad, we need to hear if the noise followed the RPM. Also the ticking beat changed after a bit, which makes me believe that its a rockers/lifter when the oil gets to it. If you want to be on the OVER safe side. - Do a video of it from startup and ( Video Nonstop ) document the oil and engine temperature when warmed up and sounds with revving a slight bit and send it to the MB tech and ask them. Also ask them if it is safe to drive. It sounds like over kill but god forbid its worse when you drive it on the way over and it dies and they blame you for driving it.
When it comes to cars out of warranty and 3rd party warranty insurance companies remember they are in it for the money. Just document it and ask them. Even if its nothing big at least you have it on video and paper. Hopefully its just a snag that will go away. Allot for folks on here has the "Mysterious ticking noise" (no not the Harry potter video on YouTube) but for most of us its oil starvation and it goes away pretty quickly. For other its more serious..
Let us know how it turns out.

Ok so last night I went home and started the car up again. The issue is gone?
I drove it around did a few acceleration and deceleration and all sounds normal.
Heres one vid when I cranked it after coming home from work.

The car sat for 5 days in a garage before I started it.
I drove it to work today. The ticking is not as pronounced anymore.

If you leave the car sit for a few days, the ticking will be louder. You should idle the car until the sound goes away (takes a minute). Do not rev the motor. Do not drive the car. Just idle until the oil is fully circulated, sound goes away, then drive the car.
If I remember right, that's what the AMG guys recommended over at the PL.

I know that in a more recent post you said that you checked the oil level and it was fine. But in the future, if you ever hear ANY sound (especially a knocking/ticking sound) coming from the engine, SHUT IT OFF IMMEDIATELY AND CHECK THE OIL!!!! (check it after it cools down.) The amount of damage that you subject your engine to for every rpm it makes (with no/low oil) takes hundreds/thousands of miles off of the engine.
Don't know much about the engine in these cars, but that sounds like a bad hydraulic lifter. Additionally, it also sounds like excessive chain noise. I'm guessing this is a DOHC engine. I wonder if there was some blockage to one side of the engine that wasn't allowing the hydraulic lifter to pump up as well as not lubricating the cam chain. Could be a failing oil pump?

Supposed to check oil when the engine is up to running temp so you don't over fill it when its cold.
Noisy lifters has been somewhat common on this engine..
I've had the exact same problem as the poster once. It went away on its own as well.

Just because its approved doesn't mean they are using it anymore.
He's right. Since about 08 dealers have all been instructed to use 5w40.
I just spoke to my tech friend about this as well the other day.. He said they haven't used 0w40 in years on the 63's.
If you wanna use it go hard.
