How to make rear stance more aggressive?

One thing that has always bugged me, as well as most, is the inadequacy of our rear stance. In addition, I think the front stance really stands out which makes matters worse. Plus our stock wheel/tire size is smaller in diameter in the rear compared to the front making it even worse (F: 25.48 vs. R: 25.02 for 19's and 18's are about the same). And the distance from the top of the tire to the fender well is about a half inch greater up front.

So how can we make the rear stance more aggressive looking? For the sake of this thread, let's focus on appearance rather than performance.

Run wider tires? 275/30/19 makes the diameter 25.5 so then pretty even. But then its going to look like the rear is slammed exaggerating the discrepancy from the tire to the fender well.

What about dropping only the front? H&R sport springs will drop it about .75 inches.

Would there be any issues with just dropping the front by .75 inches and leaving the rear springs stock?

My thought would be going to 275/30/19 (9" wide rim), a 10mm spacer for the rear and dropping the fronts only.

Thoughts?

Why would you just drop the front with H&R? do you want to have a C63 that looks like the Ford Gran Torino from Starsky and Hutch? You are definately not improving the rear stance with dropping the front.

The car has a bad design from factory, this car should had come with a wider wheel well/rear fenders and much wider tires and rims just like the CLK BS.

What you can do is to get wider tires and some springs with moderate drop. Anyways, that is just my suggestion.

So you want to look like you have a race car rear stance, without the functionality of it?

So that's like putting an AMG sticker on a C350??

I have 275/30/19

BMW M3 2010
I understand exactly what you mean by it looking weird. I think the car looks amazing from the front but from the side it looks off and the rear is just plain. I have to get real close to tell if its a c63 or some c350 with quad exhausts. Its competitor such as M3 is easily distinguishable from all angles. I ordered one of the first c63 coupe in the states and declined it because of the exterior and the sandpaper like headliner and for some reason mine had p32 instead of p31. I didnt want to wait another 3 months.

I plan on putting 275's regardless, so I know that will help with the functionality.

On my 2009 sedan, I put 275/30/19's on the rear and 245/35/19's on the front with wider rims and pushed them out to the edge with the offset. It definitely made the rear more aggressive, but it also made the fronts stand out even worse.

So I'm just trying to find a way to make it less so. I agree, its a design issue which they should have addressed and did so with the black series.

I'm not trying to make it look like a gran torino. I'm just trying to make it look a little better and in the process, improve the functionality.

Look at the attached picture. If you put 275's on that car, you decrease the distance from the rear tire to the fender well. The space is already wider on the front wheel well, so that will make the difference worse. The rear will looks like you are hauling bags of concrete!

I'm just curious if you drop the front only what it will look like.

I totally understand ur point in trying to find the best height/ tire combo to make the car look better. I don't know why this car has such a big wheel gap in the front. I think u can try ur idea by dropping the front first & drive it a week or two until it settles.. And decide if u like the look or not. U can always drop the rear later at the worst case scenario, with using the spring pads of ur choice ( the thicker one will suit u better for what u want to achieve). GL

lol, I should of taken a picture... I drove my car around for 2 days with just the front dropped, (H&R springs) most people would never guess/know except for the few that know merc's & bm's have less fender gap in the rear. IMO, it didn't look bad at all, pretty much an even gap, try it, it may be the look you want.

I know what you mean. I got coilovers, the front is a tab bit lower than the back, but still didn't look too aggressive. Looked much better when I put spacers (10mm), and this is with 275's in the back.

Have you ever tracked a car on a road course or do you just go straight line?

That set up actually helps with gearing and coming out of a corner faster.

But its a performance car.

You are actually decreasing the functionality. You are also contrary to your statement right above. What is performance to you? What is functionality to you?

Track the car on a road course. If it happens to unsettle because of a bump, rise, etc and you have to turn afterwards and create a lean you'll understand very fast why the tire fender gap is the way it is on the front compared to the rear.

Now if all you are interested in is straight line or highway curves then you can do what you want in regards to your suspension looks. It probably won't make much of a difference then.

^--- This is a "show" versus "go" discussion for sure. If I bought the C63 for "show" only I would have picked another car
