If there is no difference between the P31 and tuned non-P31 other than the tune, then what is the benefit of the SLS internals (if not, then why do high performance cars utilize lt-wt crankshafts)?

If a P31 would not benefit from a tune, then where does the extra HP/Tq of the BS come from (as there aren"t any performance enhancing parts listed in the package)?

Since tuners "maximize" the performance of the car (as equiped), would everyone agree that a P31, BS, and tuned non-P31 will all run the 1/4 in the same time and dyno not only the same peak Hp/Tq, but have the same power curve? This would have to be true if;

Tuning a P31 would not yield any benefit
There aren't any parts that yield additional performance in regards to Hp/Tq in a P31 or BS
The BS is overrated, or the P31 is underated, as there is a 30 Hp and 14 fpTq separating them, despite the P31 being "untunable

Riddle me this Batman...

Good points. But as I remember, even the SLS internals didn't and would make a HUGE notable difference in HP or efficiency/power. I think there is a difference in fuel injection and throttle body opening in the two. Remember, same engine, just different ways to get air and fuel into it...

Any updates on this question?

Especially with all the new eurocharged tunes these days.

The factory lists the p31 with 487HP and 443TQ, i.e. 30 more HP but no additional torque in comparison to the stock engine -- how is this possible if the tunes are showing an increase in HP and torque and it seems to be common knowledge that the p31 is simply a tuned stock engine???

What are the dynos saying these days?

Very nice. What octane was in your gas tank? What kind of dyno? Do you know what correction factor was used? SAE?

Sorry for all the questions. Just interested.

Aftermarket tunes are more aggressive than the P31 tune. You can see the difference in the tq curves. What's strange is that we've seen the video of the P31 car racing even with the aftermarket tuned car, but I would like to see more vids of that type of comparison.

Regarding dyno results, I'm most interested in comparing P31 dynos with E63 dynos, on the same dyno, preferably in the same or similar conditions. Same octane, obviously. The E63 is advertised at 518 bhp, the P31 C63 at 481 hp. That's a significant difference. These two cars should not be dynoing close to one another. But, we've seen the results of a dyno day where one member's 2010 P31 dynoed a tad higher than another members w212 E63. There was another P31 there that day that also dynoed higher than the E63. That would tend to show that the P31 C63 is underrated. But, there could have been other factors such as adaptation values being different for the different cars that day.

I would like to look more closely at the 1/4 results (mainly trap speed) that we've seen for the P31 cars and compare that with aftermarket tune only cars. Of course, taking into account different conditions.

93 octane 80 degrees dynojet. Not sure what SAE is. Owner sais he's done like about 1k pulls and his avwrage on stated hp.and whp is about 18%

Thank you much! Very nice results.

SAE is the most common standard of correction. On a dynojet, you would typically see the word SAE in the upper right corner of the page.

Edit. It was mustang dyno. My mistake.

^ That makes your results even better. Mustangs usually provide more conservative numbers than a Dyno Jet. Thatnks for posting the graph.
