Should I trade my 09 C63 for new SL550???
I have been leaning towards some sort of convertible as my next purchase, and when the 2013 SL came out I loved it.
But I also love my C63 and I'm kinda torn. In terms of performance its pretty comparable to the C63 even though its not an AMG model, which was pretty surprising to me. I also live in the northeast so having a hardtop convertible that can close in 15 seconds is awesome.
Obviously going for a C63 to a high end convertible is a big change...what do you guys think. Will I lose that awesome sporty feel of the C63 with the SL and only have a cool convertible thats not that fun to drive?
Would like to hear an opinions from people that have made similar purchases.
Thanks!

X2 on the SLK55.
The SL is not in the same league as the C63AMG. Not saying better or worse, just a different car.
The smaller sibling SLK is more nimble and closer to the C63 in terms of performance feedback.
If you are looking for a more relaxed luxury ride and you can afford the new SL and do not mind losing that performance edge and sound, then you will be fine with the SL.
X2 on test driving one. It will become clear if that is what you are looking for.

Sell your STI, DD your C63 and buy an SL550. If that's not possible financially, trade your C63 for the SL. The new headlights are hard to get used to but it must be a blast to drive with the new engines.

In this case, I think I would seriously consider the trade in. At first thought after reading your post, I said HELL NO!
But being that it is your weekend driver to enjoy the nice weather, than a big ole HELL YEAH!-- might be in order.
Still love me some C63. But I'm a one car guy with kids.

How? The SL is just a bigger (and most of the time) slower version of the SLK. I am with Propain in this one and also recommend the new SLK55 over the non-AMG SL. The only SL that make sense will be the SL65, but that will be too much of a price difference from the C63.

I smell a troll so I am not going to argue in terms of looks. My bottom line to the OP is that it doesn't make a lot of sense to pay more and get a slower car in return. The new SLK55 is just as fast, if not faster in some sense, then the SL550 due to power to weight ratio.

since when does simply expressing a simple opinion become trolling? just because that opinion is different than yours?
If you want to start something, just say so and bring it on.

Maybe we started off with the wrong foot, and I should have use the term "possible troll" instead. Since we both are the OP, it will be moot to base the argument based on look. I was just saying that the standard SL will always be under power compare to the AMG version, and I personally will be less comfortable going from an AMG to a non-AMG vehicle. However, we both have to remember that the new SL550 is just as fast as the out going SL63, which could support the OP's original intent. For roadsters I would pick either the 2013 SLK55 or the SL63 (65?), but not the SL550.

p.s. just like my pic, sometimes in life you need to slow down and smell the flowers.
