Anyone know why there is MB-TEX only for Black Series

I was in at my MB dealer this morning picking something up and in the showroom was a White C63 Black Series with every option available including the track and aeropack. This car is waiting to be picked up by the owner whom I know personally. This car looked amazing, but to my shock and dissappointment I noticed the seats front and back were covered with MB-TEX?? WTF?? This guy is writing a cheque for $149,000 which includes all our canadian/provincial taxes and it has the fake leather, WHY. The C63 coupe parked beside it in the showroom has the nappa. Does anyone have an explanation for this. Dont tell me its for keeping it cost effective. Anyway, this is a valid and very serious question and not an invitation to berate this car, i have to say, from the front this car is more menacing than you could imagine and the amount of carbon pieces on the exterior is over the top.

from the info that i got,

it was because people complained about the leather on the bolsters cracking.. so MB was planning to use this on the bolsters only, not sure if they changed their mind to do the whole seat

so to answer your question, they used MB TEX for durability

I wish mine had tex, I hate cracks in the seat (Although I have minimal cracks, i'd still prefer none).

Steel Grey Metallic C63!!
Given the choice to do this again, I would go with MB tex because of the lack of maintenance required for it. It's more durable, lasts longer and no maintenance makes it my choice for my next MB.

MB-Tex is lighter weight than leather. I remember when the Acura NSX was released- people said the same thing- "All this money for a car and it has vinyl interior?" I know it's not the same level as the Black Series, but to some people- weight is everything.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Same thought with the few posts above. I would also go for MB-Tex if given the choice--no maintenance, no cracking, higher durability, longer lasting. That's why MB uses it for the dashboard.

I have a feeling that new owner feels the same as well.

Hey Buddy, I went though 3 sets of Bolsters (Seat back replacement)on the drivers seat of my C63 with Nappa. (replaced by MBC) At first I was a little bummed as well but the M-tex grows on you.....

Is MB TEX fake leather one? It's starts to smell horrible after couple of years.

Wouldnt that be called leather twin? the inserts (middle) is leather and the bolsters MB tex fur durability.

I was also told that MB TEX in lieu of leather was a weight saving decision by MB. In fact, the specs sheet for the BS also boasts "light weight carpet". This is apparently the reason we also don't have memory passenger seats and several other items from the C63. However, we cannot opt out of the weight penalty from the pano roof. A little contradictory corporate policy.

+1 on MB-Tex. I have a 26 year-old 190e with MB-Tex that is in "like-new" conditon and that is with minimal maintenance since my parents brought it home when it was new.

To be fair, $20k of that is taxes and fees. They get raped out in eastern Canada.

At $105k base (US), $111k base (Canada) and $130k (loaded), there is no way you can replicate the car from a C63 Coupe for the same money.

actually MB tex is only for NA market , the rest of the world gets partial leather recaros! however in the rest of the world we pay a lot more tax than you guys! for example in my part of the world, we pay 115% tax on every new car, which means a BS costs HK$ 2m or around US$ 260k !

that's because HK needs to make sure the streets aren't overcrowded like it already is

btw, how much did you pay for your parking spot?

Also hk you needa order a car and wait for couple months, thats weird to me. Bunch of C63 sitting in dealer all the time in US. Also there is no test drive in Hong Kong for most of the cars. How can people spend that much money on a car without test driving. ps I come from hk too

not couple of months, 9 months for my SLK and 6 months for my C63 coupe !

there are ways to test drives in HK: you need to show them that u can afford the car !

My dad wants to get the C63 in hk and they said no test drive for that and dont even carry one in stock . They act like C63 is super exotic...At that time I think of here in LA high school parking full of c63 with some 16 years old kids blasting around. Also some of the dealers request a non refundable deposit for test drive.
