Smog Question to all Kalifornian owners?

Can I replace my resonator and secondary cats and still pass the sniffer test? I want an X pipe and want to remove the resonator and secondary cats for a few more ponies and a little better sound but I don’t want the hassle of smogging her when the time comes.

Once again thanks for all the help and advice,

Robert

If you remove the secondary cats, you won't pass the smog. If you just remove resonator only, you'll be fine.

Wont pass visual inspection but will most likely pass sniff test.

If you are not throwing codes with the secondary cat removed, you should be able to pass the sniff test portion of the test. However in Cali there is a visual inspection that requires the emission systems have not been modified. Many smog shops ignore this requirement, but be sure before you go. The resonator delete should be no problem in any event.

Thanks, I think I will leave the Cats on. I just want it a little louder anyway.

FYI my smog station in CA asked me not to come back and test there, even though I know the guys and they are great. One of my M cars is listed with CADMV as a "gross polluter" because it passes all the tailpipe tests but at substantially higher than average levels in two categories. I gather from what he told me that DMV is sniffing around (pun intended) looking at these types of results with the intent of implementing greater enforcement of the visual test and presumably threatening penalties, fines and even prosecution of testing stations found not fully compliant. Whatever it is, my test technician was genuinely scared. Damn CA *****...
