Need feedback from previous owners: '09 X5 4.8 sport vs. '09 Cayenne GTS
QUESTION IS REALLY FOR THOSE WHO'VE OWNED EITHER CAR - RELIABILITY IS A KEY CONCERN.
Real quick - I live in Dubai and the wife is moving here in 2 months. She's currently in an '08 X5 3.0 and its slow as crap...her previous 2 cars were 335i coupes, so she's into fast cars....the current X5 was kind of a stop-gap short term lease takeover situation.
Now before everyone jumps in and says - GTS all the way, I'm really asking the question more so from people who have either owned either or have significant experience.
One big concern is reliability. I recently test drove both cars and would give the GTS a slight edge over the X5 in terms of speed and handling, but nothing to warrant a "no-brainer" decision - it was kind of a 8/10 vs. 9/10 decision.
Before the C63, I was a lifelong Bimmer owner (2 540's, e36 M3, the aforementioned 335s) so I'm a bit partial to the X5. It seems a bit larger on the inside and when I drove it, everything just seemed to come together the way Bimmers usually do.
Based on initial inquiries from some shops here, Cayenne parts / service are more expensive but I haven't been able to get a good read on reliability for either.
All feedback appreciated.

Shouldn't you be asking about an ML63 on this board. BTW with the Cayenne you get the "Porsche Experience" at least $1k everytime you take it in for service.

It's clear why he's asking guys, come on lighten up. This is a community here, and many folks own or have owned other cars. They can provide unbiased opinions FROM EXPERIENCE not just what they have heard generally.
Sorry I don't have personal experience with either, but a buddy of mine had his Cayenne GTS for maybe a year max before he got rid of it....he said the craftsmanship was mediocre and the car overall just felt shoddy over time. Multiple folks i know with x5's or x6's love them. Again, not first hand, but for whatever it's worth.

2009 ML63 AMG, 2013 BMW 535i
GTS over X5 4.8 anyday but then GTS would cost you $$$ on maintenance
Cayenne handles more like a sedan as compared to X5 plus better interior and road presence
I was a long BMW owner and did a comparison between 2009 Cayenne Turbo S and 2009 ML63 and ended up with ML63..no regrets at all!
PS: imran qureshi?

I would go with the X5. I researched the hell out of the cayenne GTS and was sold on paper and pictures. Once I drove one I was very disappointed. We had 3.0 X5 and loved everything about it. I test drove the 4.8 and felt it had more power then the Cayenne, better interior, and normal size steering wheel. I felt like the cayenne steering wheel was huge. Plus the X5 had a lot more options standard then the Porsche. The 09 cayenne also had a crap Navi system. The updated it in 2010 and was improved considerably. It also did not have Bluetooth which is kinda behind in the times.
I tell you what. Best looking SUV I found but they are very hard to find is the BMW X5 with the M-Sport Package. Not the X5M... But looks just like it with out the 100k price tag. You will be very happy when you see it!!
