Using an external hdd in the USB slot?

I read a few places that people use external hdd's to play music. I bought a 320 gb passport essential but it keeps saying "USB Device Unreadable"...I also read that there are lists of approved accessories but the thing is that on the website it says no data has yet been released...so I'm confused...I read that the passport works in other C204's but don't see why it's not working...it might be the way I put the music in my hdd, but I didn't think it made that much of a difference because it's all in an organized way...just confused and my Google searched pulled up nothing...Thanks guys.

I'm not sure on the c63 but my last bmw had the usb option and an external hd worked fine. I think it has something to do with how the HD is formatted, IIRC it has to be FAT32.

It is possible its just a case of the formatting/putting music on hd correctly.
