Service B1
I just finished my B1 service at 2 years but only 11879 km (7425 miles). I figure it took me about 6 hours to do the service but I did it over several days along with a lot of other little things and a complete in/out wash and wax with some scratch removal and clay bar.
Cost:
MB oil filter A0001803009 and two seal rings $24.72
Oil - 5W40 Total Quartz 9000 Energy 9L 108.00
Brake Fluid - ATE Super Blue Racing 1L 15.00
HST Local Tax 19.20
Total 166.92
I did not check but the local dealer would charge at least $500 plus tax = $565 for this service.
I did not replace the cabin filter which would have increased the cost $60 at a guess. I did replace the differential fluid again though it was not scheduled at a cost of $70 tax in. The fluid looked good so this was probably not really necessary.
I also installed braided ss brake lines and my new wheels and tires.
Good for another season.

Good job Mort, a nice saving for sure!! My B1 light reminder just came on, I guess i will get raped in 30days... lol ! My car has 5000km, so I'm still hesitant to flush my brake fluid at this point.

Why would you hesitate at all? Last I checked... braking was a vital part in driving.. LOL

^^ lol... very true! But what is your honest opinion, it is a waste of $$ to flush the brake fluid on such a low mileage car?
I know MB recommends every 2 years, but I doubt my brake will fails if I do it every 3 years... no? Most of my cars I own, I flushed my brake fluid when I change pads... but I know I wont go cheap cuz it's an AMG. lol

Honestly, if you ask me... the brand has nothing to do it... nor does the car. Your life means more than the hunk of metal you sit in.. I personally do everything as a precaution; never would I question it.
The mileage of the car itself doesn't answer the question 100 percent on it's own, however your car is now between 2 and 3 years old. The water accumulation in your system builds up regardless. Although it necessarily, and most likely WONT be, a life or death decision.. I would still perform the flush. You never know when you're going to need the full stopping power of the car.. and having that up to par should be heavily considered.

Mort....Nice garage you have there mate.
What sort of jack did you use to lift the car, & where, under the body, did you lift from?....I'm always wary of damaging the underbody if I place the jack in the wrong spot.
Cheers, Pickles.

Thanks
ATE recommends every 2 to 3 years depending on vehicle and operating conditions. I think you can hold out another year but won't recommend any longer on a brake fluid change.
Don't blame you. I have a Motive Bleeder and a can of ATE Super Blue unopened on the shelf. Come on over.

Pickles I have a 3 1/2 ton floor jack that I use. I jack the car in the front centre at a jack point on the front frame. I just posted a pic today in gthal's thread. I put a jack stand under each front sill jack point and then jack the rear if necessary under the rear differential housing. Again jack stands go under the rear sill jack points. My jack has a rubber cover on the cup that prevents damage to the underside of my vehicle. Because my car is lowered I actually start jacking under the passenger side front sill jack point to get the car high enough to put a 21/2" thick slab of wood under the front tire. I let the car down on the wood and that holds it high enough in the air to get the jack under the front of the car and under the centre jack point.

And with that said, kudos to Mort who not only realizes the savings that can be had, but also the fun of working on your car.

my wife bananas! :D
I've never been a guy that does his own service but after joining this forum and learning, I am thinking of doing some basic stuff to learn more about my car.
Here's a simple question... after you do a maintenance, how do you turn off the 'service required message'? And if you are under MB warranty, is it still ok to do your own maintenance?

The car is literally a hair above the ground on one side.. nothing unstable about it. As he said, it gives him just enough room to jack up the entire front of the car at once, as opposed to doing one side at a time, which would be unstable seeing how high he has it elevated in the picture.

And that of course is reasonable. The Benz 'tax' for stupid services they perform is ridiculous. Hell.. I'd do for it for a beer or two so long as you provide all the consumables..
And with that said, kudos to Mort who not only realizes the savings that can be had, but also the fun of working on your car.
