I haven't dealt with a 63 fuel system in a year but if my memory serves me well. Not sure what they are calling a fuel pump regulator. The car has 2 fuel pump control modules. The left one (master) controls the left pump and sends commands to the right one. The right one controls the right pump. The engine computer (M.E.) reads fuel pressure at the fuel rail and sends a signal to the left one telling to increase or decrease the fuel pressure.

I picked up the part (around $7) on Tuesday and will be installing it this weekend.
Can u take a pic of the piece you taped to make the light turn off?

So my diagnosis was the same - rail sensor was changed out. Get home, drive for a day, CEL is back. Fill up the gas, light turns off. Day later it comes back on. Going back to MB later this week. Have u had any more issues since Drawde?

Hasn't come back yet.. I would ask them to get out the fuel module? If you want I can ask the guy that fixed mine what exactly he saw and what the problem was.

But yeah, no issues, light hasn't come back yet.

I will try to get a picture up later.. but even after replacing the part, the problem persists, went out for a few days, came back on yesterday morning.

Edit: Adding image

Sorry for the blurry shot, hard to take a close up shot with my phone.

Anyone have any updates on this? Mine came back today after nearly 2 weeks.. I still have to find out what was done with the fuel module (sorry Pat), but whatever it was that wasn't the problem (or at least not the entire problem). I cleared the code for now, will see if it comes back.

Mine has been at the dealer for two weeks now,
they replaced the fuel pressure sensor, the fuel tank, and now they are changing the fuel pump..

Hopefully this can help some of you out. I can't explain it 100%, and it may even be too early to say, but I think my CEL is gone (the last time it was "fixed" it came back after 2 weeks).. It's been over 3 weeks since I last saw that stinking CEL.

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK* - The light was cleared as this point. I was told that the light was gone now but I was told it would most likely come back. They told me they couldn't quite figure what the problem was. I don't believe anything was done aside from diag/testing on this last trip to the indy shop.

I wish I could say this was on purpose but it wasn't.. Anyway I'll spare you (and myself) from that embarrassing story, haha. But basically I ran the tank completely EMPTY. Drove it until the car was stopped and wouldn't go anywhere, it would barely start..

I also tried to think what I might be doing differently, and the only thing I could think of was that I started going to a different gas station regularly as of a few months ago (months before this CEL issue).. For the past 3 weeks I've been staying away from this gas station and so far so good.

Could've been both those things, or one of them, or neither. But thought I'd throw that in there for anyone who's running out of things to try.

Would have responded earlier but only saw this now.

I first had this error about 2 years ago.

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...elp-error.html

Car has been into dealer about 8 times. Replaced fuel rail sensor, fuel pump control unit and still no change. Error would come on every now and then. For some reason the dealership refused to changed fuel pump beacause they connected an external pressure gauge and pressure seemed fine. However the pump was in some sort of a "default" or "safe mode" that pumped constant pressure irrespective of throttle position or rpm.

Never really saw any loss in HP on the top, so went to quite a few events sometimes even making more hp but the times never dropped. Eventually after watching a few videos of my car at the track I started monitoring HP low down / from idle and this is were I saw a problem. 60ft times were down and AFR at the bottom was all over the place. I think this is beacuse of high fuel pressure from pump in "safe mode" and the car trying to correct from rich to lean and vice versa until higher in the rpm band then she was fine.

Eventually the code changed to this:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...anges-c63.html

Took the car to another dealership explained the history. They changed the fuel pump and car was pefect. No errors, no hesitation from low down or from standstill.

My times improved dramatically and so did my 60ft.

In my opinion and after having this issue for almost 2 years I would advise a fuel pump change.

Hope this helps.

My car has been at the dealer for a week an a half, same fuel rail pressure issue (as well as the command rotary knob not working, and the sunscreen stopped working). They took their time (I told them they had a week extra because I went out of time for about a week to Vegas for Defcon). They replaced the sensors and fuel rail (not sure if they have tried the pump yet).

They are currently tracing wires since the light keeps coming back on. Oh well, I have a loaner, 2013's are actually nice inside (although I have a C250.. still feels zippier then the 2011 C300 I had last time).

Just ask them to change the fuel pump and your problem should be fixed.

Wierd that your rotary control knob stopped working. Mine has done the same.
Let me know what the fix is, thanks.

That is the fix, they are replacing both the high and low pressure pumps. However, one of them is coming from Germany, so I'll be in the loaner for a while longer.

My sypmtoms were the same as Drawde it seems, I never did the scan myself. But the CEL light was intermittent - it would always go away the first time i fueled up then come back at 3/4ths of a tank, and then stay on. Since the second time i brought it in, its been fine. Ill check my paperwork to seee exactly what they did

Car is back in the shop today after being 5+ months CEL free.. Same P228F error. I advised they change the fuel pump as well, wish me luck

Hmm, that is strange. Did they replace anything before?

Same as NS_63 above it seems.. Rail sensor, fuel control module, didn't help.. Aside from the CEL, the car was running good, mpg no different than usual, power still good. Eventually went away on its own..

I thought it was due to bad gas, so for the last 5 months I've been sticking to the same pump at the same gas station (only with Sandy shortages as an exception), which seemed to work but might've been just a coincidence. CEL came back, tried cycling the tank (as empty as i can get it, then filling up) a few times (worked last time, see older posts), after that CEL was still there.

I hadn't started or driven my car in almost 3 weeks. This cel just came on yesterday. I cleared the code haven't driven it again, will report back if it does and if I take it to the dealer will let you know what they say

I am getting this same code, however my fuel pumps are like 6 months old. Car was at the dealer for the past 2 weeks because it wouldn't start. Before I had the car towed to the dealer my independent mechanic scanned the car to see what was happening. He pulled the p228F code. Butthere was a slight tear in the intake plenum so they replaced that and then an intake pressure sensor. Cel was gone for 80 miles.

Car was at the dealer for another week, they replaced a fuel sending unit car worked for 5 minutes and the CEL came back on! So she is back there again. Hopefully the third time is the charm!!

HOPEFULLY FINAL UPDATE....
The fuel pumps are being swamped out under warranty, they only lasted 5 months. One of the pumps is losing pressure, for at this point reasons unknown. I figured this would be the outcome so now I must argue for my $700 back for the pointless replacement of the sending unit. Wish me luck.
