One Wheel Peels

Just purchased a 9k mileage 2010 C63, my first MB as well as my first car. Up until this point I have owned nothing but 'Merican SUVs and pick-up trucks. Needless to say I am in love with driving it. However, the loss of power to one wheel when cornering/sliding really irks me,

My question is what is the best aftermarket differential option to supply constant power to both wheels and how much is this going to cost me w/ install (roughly)? Finally any comments or advice anyone has would be appreciated.

Most members here have installed the Quaife lsd. The install time will be approximately 5-6 hours. That is the most cost effective LSD out there right now. The "Best" lsd out there and cost is not a worry, would be the OS Giken LSD. More than double the price of the quaife, but that one is a 100% locking differential.

Buy a takeout OEM LSD for $600-800 bucks and swap it into your pumpkin. That is what I did and it was by far the best bang for the buck mod I have done yet.

As far as install time I had it in and out of the car in less than 2 hours.

You pulled apart a rear knuckle, dropped an axle shaft, pulled the diff housing, opened the housing, pulled the diff, swapped the ring gear to the the LSD, installed the LSD in the diff housing, then put it all back to together in under 2 hours?

Maybe I should rephrase that to "We" haha

I have a good friend who owns a shop and I use his lift/tools. We knocked it out fairly easily. I don't see any reason a reputable shop couldn't get it done in under 4 hours.

You forgot, install new bearings.

Under 2 hours for this installation is not even close to realistic.

+1 on this. It's better to quote the OP a reasonable timeframe, rather than the "best" time performed by 2 people. Most shops will quote 1 tech and the book time. That's 5-6 hours.

I would agree that 2 hours is totally unrealistic for a single person. However for 2 people that have done multiple diffs in these cars working together I disagree.

You can't just pop in a new LSD. You have to set the pinion depth. Otherwise, you'll chew up your ring/pinion in no time. I rebuilt the LSD on my GT3 and this is critical.

Correct.

For any DIYers reading this the acceptable range for backlash is .10-.16mm or .004-.006 inches for our cars.
