New C63 - rail dust wont go, please help!

Hi, just took delivery of my new C63, palladium, did not check the paint on delivery, It seems to have rail dust/rough surface on the hood, quarter panels and other various parts, the doors and roof are glass smooth. I used Meguires clay bar kit 2x on to remove the rail dust and it did not work. Any tips? should I order different clay? professional detail? I dont want to damage my paint. It looks perfect, just to touch it is not smooth like my previous black C63 was
thanks....

If brand new just take it back to the dealer and ask them to take a look at it. If not try a cut a polish and see if you can get it back to smooth. You can get a heavy or light cut so you may need to use a heavy cut. No expert here, just from looking after my own cars.

Rail dust is a particularly sucky problem. It is slivers of metal as opposed to regular dirt, think like splinters. It should never be clay barred as that simply breaks of the tips of the rail dust leaving the rest embedded in the paint. There are specific chemical (alkaline) treatments for rail dust. Maby a professional can comment on this.

Fortunately you have a dark colored car so should it not be taken care of completely the rust spotting as the rail dust oxidizes wont be as noticeable.

Id hit it with some rubbing compound (light or heavy cut, depend on the condition of the paint).
You can always take it to a detailer or have the dealer fix it.

Been there done that. My advice - get a quote for a professional treatment from someone who knows what they're doing and have the dealer pay for it. Do NOT let the minimum-wage dealer prep guys do it!

Car Pro Iron-X.

Just ordered some myself - the stuff's supposed to work wonders, and be pretty easy to work with if you follow the directions.

Take it back to the dealer, and if they say no, pitch a tent in the showroom.

Meguires makes decent stuff, unfortunately, it is not the stuff they supply to your local autozone.. which for the most part, is garbage.

Clay bar will easily remove rail and brake dust with out any issues, as long as you use the right type, and a quality clay lube. I suggest you search the various online detailing sites that sell supplies to get good quality clay (the stuff they include with teh kit is considered fine, you most likely want moderate or course)

Question

TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER..as I've told you.
The dealer has to provide you with a car in absolutely PERFECT,.... NEW,....... SHOWROOM, condition.
If it ain't......GIVE IT BCK TO HIM.....simple as that.....he hasn't got a leg to stand on.
DO NOT muck around with the paint yourself......you're simply giving the Dealer reason to say that YOU are the person that has created the "sub standard" finish of your duco.
Cheers, Pickles.

I agree, maybe you're not using the clay bar correctly. You might not be putting enough pressure on the bar.

Why is this even being discussed!? You could risk ruining your car completely! Dont try anything unless your a pro. The only thing you should be doing is taking it to the dealer, it is completely thier responsibility to have delivered it perfectly and they should sort it out.
