2012 C63 w/ performance pack brake questions

hi gurus,

I was just curious if the 2012 C63 with performance pack (read red calipers) come with 1 piece or 2 piece rotors?

I was reading somewhere that they should be 2 piece rotors....

any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

The P31 front rotors are dual cast design from Brembo. Here is a description: http://www.pixelmotion.com/customers/brembo-cadillac/

Are we sure that 2012's are two piece? I thought mine were 1 piece but I'll now have to go look.

Look closely in this link.
P31 rotors are 1 piece.
http://mbworld.org/forums/4047152-post11.html

The earlier P30 package came with 2 piece rotors.

It's a 2 piece design..."Dual Cast"

The hat is cast aluminum and there's pins that go form the hat to the rotor. It's not a 2 piece that we are all used to seeing. But it's considered a 2 piece....

When these need to be replaced I believe the whole thing needs to be replaced. The 2 piece rotors we are used to... We can remove the aluminum hat and replace the rotor.

As soon as my dual cast needs replacing I'll get the ACG, Evo or EC 2 piece aluminum hat rotor.

i am so confused....so they are kind of a 2 piece but their not? and so why are they so expensive if they are not 2 piece?

They are different from standard car though, right?

The new-style Brembo rotor (IMO 1.5-piece) looks to be much, much cheaper to manufacture than the traditional two-piece style. I renewed the Brembos in my M5 not that long ago and disassembling/reassembling the clips takes a little time and requires the use of a torque wrench. The P31 rotors may work just as well but I love the technical look of the P30 rotor.

For all you Canadians out there, is there a difference between the APX (Canadian perf pack) and P31 (Amercian perf pack) when it comes to the brakes on a 2012? I know there are some significant differences in certain packages and what comes standard on a 2012 C63.

My dealer is telling me the APX comes with a 1 piece rotor that is really not that expensive to replace (relatively speaking). Everyone posting here, and from previous threads, are suggesting the brakes are 2 piece rotos which cost a fortune to replace with OEM parts.

Any input from either side (north or south of the border) would be great...

APX and P31 is the same relative to brakes, power, etc.

This says to me that it is effectively a 1 piece rotor. If you have to replace the entire thing, it isn't a true 2 piece.

The APX is P31 that replaced the p30 in mid 2010MY builds. They are dual cast like the above brembo link mentions. The fronts are expensive, about 3k for pads and rotors, however the rears are very reasonable priced. Also a huge tip for Canadians is that we have a 2 year wear and tear warranty that covers breaks. I just had fronts and rears replaced courtesy of MB Canada. Definitely a huge plus of AMG ownership north of the border.

I guess for 2012 C63 rotors... its termed 2 pc rotor... argument is now dual cast vs separate hat & rotor combo

thanks guys.

info was posted in the brembo link...

Yes they are different from the standard car... They are completely solid (integral disc); cast as one full piece on a non P31 car.

I did hear of the 2 yr wear and tear offered by MB Canada. Great news for us canucks, but how much wear and tear is required by MB Canada before they will consider replacing pads and rotors under warranty?
How long did you drive your car before having to replace them?
What kind of driving style (spirited daily driver or are you at the track 3-4 times per year)?

I ask becuz I was told it is pretty difficult to wear down the rotors enough to warrant asking for a replacement within the first 2 years...

Input???
