Need Advice: Lower Bumper Grille Met Rubber from Truck Tire
On my way to work this morning, I was doing about 75 in the fast lane, when the prius infront of me swerves a little. I then saw the rubber from a truck tire in the middle of the lane. I decided my best bet was to try and square up with it and take it on as straight as I could. When I got to work, I saw that the tire had taken out my lower honeycomb center grille and a piece of the plastic behind it with the AMG logo on it.
After work I went to the dealer, he said it would be like 550 to replace the piece, and that the plastic piece with the AMG logo would not be changed because it is part of the bumper.
Wanted to get opinions on the price, I know the part is like only 45-50 dollars. But that the bumper has to be removed.
Also does anyone know if the plastic piece with the AMG logo is in fact part of the bumper? I would in theory like to have it fixed, but could live with the cracked piece if I had to.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Will try and post some pics in the AM

I found the part on one of the parts websites listed as a lower oil cooler baffle. It is listed at only like $20. I will call my service adviser on Monday and see what he thinks. I would think they could get to it if they had to take the whole bumper off.

Crap...sorry it happened. I would seriously look at this as an opportunity to upgrade to the DTM bumper....delete fog lights and open up access to the radiator!! On black it would look really good and easy color match... GL

Lol how do you guys justify ~$100 in parts vs $1500?
That lower mesh is common to break. The part is cheap. It's easy to replace once the bumper is removed.

Hey Sam!
If you can find the part before you head over to my warehouse, I can have it installed for you for no extra! My compliments! The bumper's real simple to take off so I can have that done along with your headlamps!

Broken off latch - Is this the radiator lower baffle?
I'm appending to this thread since this is related… My car got slightly damaged under the front bumper during transit. The affected area is really small but since the car is still new it bothers me. Basically, one latch on the bumper cover got damaged (white part in the photo), and the corresponding black plastic clip that holds the bumper cover to the car (black part) got torn off. Trying to make things right MBUSA was nice enough to replace my bumper cover for free without any drama so that takes care off the damaged white part, but as for the black counterpart the shop ordered and replaced a wrong (intact) panel on the bottom
So when I got my car back I noticed the black latch was still broken off. I don't want to take my car back into the shop so I decided to take matters into my own hands. Basically I want to replace the black plastic part myself and I *think* it is called radiator lower baffle, like this one:

1) Can someone confirm that this is indeed the part the bumper cover clips in (as per photo)?
2) I'm comfortable taking off the front bumper cover myself - I watched the shop doing it during the entire time. Now, to replace the lower baffle, is this going to be challenging or rather easy?
Thanks!
Andreas
PS: The photo is taken from under right side of the front bumper looking upwards.

I had to replace the power mesh. Dealer wanted $400. I got the part for $100 and did it myself in like a half an hour. It's easy. The other scoop looking part seems to be ducting for the oil cooler. I have no experience replacing that but would imagine it's not too bad with the bumper off.

Take it back to the dealer, let them make it right for you, after all you did not buy a discounted car did you! If you damage the paint or bumper doing it yourself, well you will be pissed.

Thanks guys yes I would normally take it back to the dealer but the last time they worked on it I insisted on watching them working on my car to see what exactly they do and how they work and without going into details I'm sure I could do the same thing in a much more careful fashion without breaking or scratching anything. Basically I'm worried about the hidden damage they will cause, braking clips, pieces, and so on. Plus I enjoy doing such rather basic mechanical work myself.
Interestingly I just noticed now that when they replaced the panel under the oil cooler / front part of the engine it looks like the little rubber lib on the oil cooler air outlet towards the bottom liner is bent inwards, partially restricting air flow (photo of the bottom of the front of my C63). This can't be right can it? I think it should be pointed outwards so I'm going to find another C63 and check it (maybe one of you guys can help out)
Anyways I would still appreciate if somebody could confirm what the black plastic part is the bumper cover clips into that I mentionned in my earlier post

Sure, I'll take a look at it tomorrow. As we speak I am having another round of PSS's put on. This time I am trying 245F & 265R. It will be too dark by the time I get my car back.
