Ran with a TT-RS

So, there is a guy in my community that drives a white TT-RS, beautiful car. I've always wondered about the performance of this car VS our 63's. I know from a dig they have the advantage of AWD and launch control. But, how would we fare from a rolling start? Well, I got the chance to find out. We ran from 20-100mph on a two lane on-ramp to an empty highway. It was completely dead even until about 60mph and then I barely started to inch on him. I let off at that point because my V1 chirped.

Man that car is fast. I have no idea if he's stock or not, But I thought with my tuned 63 I reel him in

Those cars are very fast - especially with the DSG (unfortunately I think it's only offered in Europe) - but there are tuning packages that make them monsters!

I like them a lot but they're just too small for my taste.

interesting. I thought you would take him easily with your tuned 63. maybe he was modded?

There is a guy I see around that has a TT-RS too, I will ask him to do a roll if he is down haha.

have you raced your wife's slk?

LOL. so your buddy's not a great driver then? haha jk.

but thats surprising considering they are only rated at 360hp. pretty impressive (although I've heard they are really fast)

Actually, we did a quick little run the other day on our way home from work. It was very informal. After explaining to her a few times how it works We ran from a dig to about 80mph. I lost traction pretty badly of the start and still managed to pull a car length ahead. We turned around and ran again, this time I did not hear her honk and she got a huge jump on me and I could not catch up. So according to my wife we are 1-1 She now wants a tune and then race me again. We will see in better conditions how badly I beat her.

oh he's a terrible driver .. :P .. but yeh i think all wheel horsepower is more effective ? or maybe audi's r underrated, but apparently this can do serious damage once tuned ! with the twin clutch it does 0-60 in 3.7, same as an R8 V10 ..
this is getting it's engine, should be a track beast

I am also shocked, i figure the TT-RS should be trapping 113 or so. And a tuned C63 in the high teens. My guess is he had a flash on it.

I would rather have them come only in Manual, than only DSG.

TT-RS is sole only with a manual in the U.S.

hahaha. what about from personally driving it, how do you think it compares with a stock/tuned c63?

I'm interested to see what kind of power it will put out with a tune also.

Was it a suzuka grey tt? I saw one in Sawgrass last month. It's a very good looking car and fast too. I don't understand why they don't bring the DSG transmission here. Start the race from 50-60mph then you'll have a better chance.

The SLK is a fun car to drive because it feels like a go-kart. In C mode the car is just way too docile and is S mode it feels more akin to our C mode. The shifting is not very aggressive at all and does not hold the RPM's. The only way I've been able to drive it to its potential is in M. Its certainly quick, just not as raw and viceral as the 63's. I hope with a tune it can wake up its inner beast. I just have to find someone that tunes it

A simple ECU upgrade by a company like APR takes the TT RS to 414HP and 430TQ - http://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_up...tfsi_ttrs.html

One of my mates has a TTRS and it is a lot faster than the modest numbers suggest.

That's one fast GTi! You probably destroy him from a dig. From a rolling start, like you did, the turbos are just more efficient.

the TTRS go like stink....honestly....its not about absolute brake horsepower / torque here.

yes...our cars... the c63 has high BHP / ft-lb or Nm but power to weight the key.....gross laden weight at .....4343.9 lbs OR 1970 kg

Audi TT-RS comes with a 2.5liter turbo churning out 335bhp for rest of world....(360bhp for USA market) / 450Nm or 332ft lb torque...the TT RS Coupé will accelerate from standstill to 100 kilometres per hour (62.1 mph) in 4.5 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155.3 mph).

There is a factory option to de-restrict the top speed to 280 kilometres per hour (174.0 mph). The Coupé has a kerb weight of 1,450 kilograms (3,197 lb).

thats almost 500kg or about 1146lbs weight advantage to the TTRS....

chuck in a chip.... it can easy go 410bhp

chip plus downpipe...425bhp

chip, downpipe / full exhaust + new turbo... almost 500bhp...

That makes no sense. A C63 with the driver and tank of gas is ~3,9xx lbs. You are telling me a TT-RS with the same is 2,800lbs?

What turbo kits are out there for the TT-RS in NA? Am curious, I used to have a GTI 1.8T and really loved that thing. I see the APR tune gives it 414HP on 93 octane. That is a lot of power for that little thing. I really wish it wasn't a TT... i.e. the hairdresser car stigma. I would love to have one.

Motortrend and Car & driver magazine states....

C63 is 3804lbs
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...pe_first_test/

Audi TTRS is 3320lbs....
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review

The one in this video is VERY fast. I don't know the extent of it's modifications but the work was done by Forged Performance in Georgia. The owner/driver is an employee there I believe. I know it had DOT slicks that were wider than mine as well as coilovers and a tune. I was slightly faster in the straight and it was a true 100 degree air temp day. This video is a condensed session and the slick track made for some fun times.
