driving cross country.. what to prepare for? suggestions/tips?
planning to pickup the car (CPO 09 with P30 is that even matters) at Spokane, WA and drive it to Houston, TX.. can this car take the 'abuse' of the 2,100 miles trip? planning to do non-stop.. well stops for gas, etc but not to stay in a hotel to sleep.. I'm driving with a friend and we'll switch..
Things i'm considering to bring - for the car:
1. extra gas
2. oil (does the car consume oil - say for this long trip?)
3. jumper cables
*car have new tires, brakes
anything to consider? suggestions?
thanks

1. Pillow or cushion. Those seats can be pretty uncomfortable on long trips.
2. Coolant (you never know).
3. lots and lots of music. I use an SD card.
4. if you are cruising on the interstate most of the way, it can be pretty dull. if you have a radar detector, it might make it enjoyable as you can do some speed bursts where you know it's safe
5. video cameras to film when you first start up the car. have the friend start the car and you stand by the rear exhausts to film and hear the car for the first time!
6. you'r face will be sore from all the grinning. I'm not sure what will fix that.
7. enjoy the hell out of it!

Bring some pillows for u back u going to need it.
The most I done non stop was about 1050miles 14 hrs .
My car had 46000 miles on it and it's a 08 and it's been modded since 12k
U have nothing to worry about you car, just rest when u need to bc thats a long trip.
Good luck

Congrats on the car. I also have a 09 with p30. Here's what I think you'll need...

As much as I hate those slime tire repair cans, I would still recommend you pick 1 or 2 of them up. Great for emergencies when you are in the middle of nowhere and somehow picked up a tire puncture. (However after you make it back to civilization, you really need to pull the tire off the rim and clean the crap out if you repair the puncture, or get a new tire).
Bring food, water, and as others have said.. a pillow. Music on an sd card is nice, but you have sat radio as well which would work if you want the service (I have activated it for long trips, then cancelled it when I got home)

without a radar/laser detector it seems that it'll be impossible to see if this can run the 172mph hehehe.. or at least at 150mph? the fastest i drove was 114mph trying to catch a corvette (fail!)

my wife bananas! :D
congrats on the car.
don't worry about shipping the car... you have the time + a friend who is willing to go on this adventure with you. 2k miles will fly by in no time
The list that people have mentioned is good. You may or may not need music as the exhaust note will entertain both of you for a long time
hope the weather is good and enjoy the trip home. It'll be one to remember!

Take the scenic route south through California then hook a left and come by our shop in Arizona!
I have not personally shipped a car since I've been here. So I can't recommend anything.

In addition to all those comments above, I would recommend keeping the tires inflated at the minimum recommended pressure to minimize the risk for flats.
And about packing heat (aka carrying gun), go check out usacarry.com for the state you will be passing through to make sure you are "legal" along the route. Heck, why do I even need to tell you that?!...you are from TX and nearly everyone there carry.

Got a AAA membership or roadside service? jl9j has some great ideas. Actually, if you pick up this car, you might be able to get 6 months of Sirius for free. I did. Use the ID on the radio and not what's matched up with the VIN. In my case, they were two different numbers and the radio ID was the correct one, not whatever ID was matched with my VIN. You can use the POI GPS feature to find neat things along the way or in specific cities. Otherwise, I cross-referenced gasbuddy.com with Google maps to map out checkpoints.

Wouldn't the MB roadside assistance be sufficient? If that's true, then you wouldn't really need AAA.

Now THAT will be a road trip. My sister lives in Boston and travels to Toronto frequently, but I'd have to make that trek from California. Or, you guys could come out to one of the best areas of the country
