P31 package a must?
Looking to pick up a c63 within a few months. At first my main concerns were navigation and an LSD. However I can always install an LSD myself if need be but after seeing everyone talking about the p31 package, is it a must have? I can care less for red brake calipers since I own a powder coating company and would get rid of the red anyway. But I also rear that the Rods and pistons are the same as the 6.3 in the SLS.
Thanks
Tom

P31 comes with some cosmetic benefits, but the reason I went for a P31 equipped car is due to better engine internals, as well as added performance without worrying about voiding the warranty.
Even if you wanted to mod the car, P31's stronger engine internals should help. So in either case, I'd go with P31. I have owned a tuned non P31 car in the past, and the performance seems to be comparable. I believe I can extract a few more hp from the P31 car if I were to get it tuned, but I intend to keep it stock.
As far as LSD is concerned, I'd go with the factory LSD to keep my drivetrain warranty intact. Aftermarket options may seem cheaper, but I believe it takes a considerable amount of labor to install an LSD. You could do it yourself if you are an expert mechanic and have all the tools, but I wouldn't even think about doing something like that.
Get the car with all the factory options you can so you won't regret it later!
Btw, there are many P31 vs. Non-P31 vs Tuned Non-P31 threads on this forum. Search for "P31".

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
I believe P31 adds "character" to the car.....SLS rods, pistons & crank are not just about speed etc...they are simply better components.....same with the brakes, steering wheel, rear spoiler etc....none really necessary, but all add "something" to the "character" of the car IMHO.
LSD?....well that's not REALLY necessary either, but if ya gonna get one, then get the factory item.
If ya C63 is not going to become "part of your family", you're only going to have it for a short time etc, then IMHO P31 is not necessary.
In addition, if ya're going to mod, then IMHO again, P31 is not necessary.
In our case, we do plan on owning our C63 for a long time, we love "her", she is "part of the family", & yes, we do have P31, LSD, & 19" multispokes.
Cheers, Pickles.

I went no p31 but only because I'm poor! 6k for p31 and 2k for LSD was unfortunately out of my budget. : (

I always tuned cars I've owned, so I decided not to get the P31, since I expect to mod it at some point. But, I did get the factory LSD.
Looking back, I think the SLS internals are worth it. You should get it if you get a chance.

No biggie....PLENTY of power to drive to starbucks with and get nieghborhood tickets with....you need more just tune...but unless you track ALL THE TIME, you really won't ever need extra 28-30 hsp and red brakes and alcantara steering wheel etc...
Everything else is a must in my opinion...LSD, lighting package, navigation, leather, rear view camera, keyless, ipod integration...
I actually prefer the silver brakes (one piece) and the all leather wheel...

From the videos on the internet I've seen P31= normal+tune, and form reading around tuning a P31 doesn't do much.... I feel like the SLS internals are a marketing gimmick.

what are y'alls' opinions on cost of replacing brake pads and rotors on P31 cars? i heard it was expensive as hell. i PM'd one of the members here, and he did mention that while expensive, his pads have lasted a very long time, and the rotors even longer.
reason why i ask is that i am looking at a P30 C63 with the composite brakes and i dont want to get stuck with spending thousands to get the pads and rotors replaced every couple of years.

Is it a bad idea to minor tune a C63 without P31 package? From stock 457PS to 510PS and 600Nm to 640Nm.
We have to pay an extra US$55,000 to get the performance package in China.
Many thx in advance!

Yes, Quaife LSD is very well engineered and built. Of course, having a Quife LSD might be problematic with MB factory warranty. It's too bad AMG don't just contract with Quaife and use it as the oem LSD.

Non P31 for me because I have no impulse control and it was what the dealership had on hand. Added Eurotech tune and I'm super happy. I do not feel I'm "missing" anything.

To answer the original question, the P31 is not a must...but it's nice to have.
I didn't get it for my car. The car is plenty fast the way it is, and I didn't care too much about the aesthetic enhancements. If you have the extra coin, go for it; either way, you'll be extremely happy with the car.

I've had a 2006 corvette and a 2008 z06 and each time whether its a supercharger, tune, engine components add-ons I've always had problems. Some dealerships are ok with mods but most are not. If this is your DD then I would shy away from modding.
The reason I went with the P31 package on my coupe was b/c its my DD and i just didn't want to deal with modding and all the headaches associated with it (warranty) etc...
