C63 at the shop - ongoing

I'm making this thread to bring light to something that might affect some of you (hopefully none). If you have the keyless go option, you should have keyless entry, the ability to open and lock your car by the touch of the handle.

My MY2010 C63 rear passenger door handle has always been sluggish ever since I got it. It would work at most 50% of the time. sometimes locking works while unlocking doesnt or you pretty much have to massage the handle to get a reaction My wife's GLK has the keyless go ability too and it's night and day how responsive her vehicle is.

Anyways, it got to the point of it really bugging me so I brought it to the stealership. This was 2 wks ago. My SA who is a top notch guy (btw anyone in the North of Toronto area that is looking for a good SA that will take care of you let me know and I can introduce) told me that AMG handles are different from the normal MB vehicles and are a bit less responsive.... but they took it in to check on it anyways. Diagnostic came back that my rear handle did suck... so they replaced it... actually replaced both rear handles. When I went to pick up the car, the handles would still be a problem

Fast fwd this monday, it was my earliest time I could go back to MB and for them to give me a loaner. So anyways, I got a new glk to play with (47 km on it ... just rolled off pdi ) and they went to work on my car. The technician ran every possible test under the sun and it passed with flying colours. puzzled, my SA sent the test reports to MB Canada to see if they encountered this before, the reply was yes as it has happened to some AMGs. Their recommended first course of action was to replace my keyless go module (this is the button we press to start the car). This is a special order so we'll wait a couple days.

Fast forward today (Thursday June 21), module comes in, tech installs it successfully but the SA tells me that the handle is still failing 1/5 times. Back to MB HQ they go for more guidance. Next step is to replace the antenna. This is a special order from Germany, so it'll be a few days before the part comes in.

Hopefully this will fix the issue, my car is in pieces atm but i think it'll be for the better lol...

As a side note, this did not cost me a penny.... MB has been very very good with making me happy and informed about the process. I figured I'll just share what is going on in case some of you are having a simliar issue and just think it is normal. might want to get it looked at now especially if your car is under warranty.

Sounds like they do not really know what the problem is and are just guessing (it is easy for them since it is all paid by MB). There are few dealerships north of Toronto I know and one is really good, another is pretty clueless.
Let me know if it does not get fixed next time - I maybe able to refer you to the MB dealership with really good MB Tech (I understand it is under warranty so, in this case, you want MB Dealership to take care of the issue )

Igor.

Handle is not the issue. It is connector/wiring from that door. Put the car with that door facing the sun and see if it works better...

Sry to hear the dealer didn't fix ur problem yet.. It really sound like they r guessing the problem, which really sucks! I'm ready to bet the antenna has nothing to do with it. Good luck with the repair & keep us posted.

100% agree. Unless the vehicle has one antenna per door, this is not an issue. I would ask them to take a simple voltmeter from CT and check the voltage/resistance difference between wiring on the working and non-working door circuit. First grade task in automotive school.

Interesting. In my 2 C63's with keyless go, I found them to be way too sensitive. When I'm power washing the car above or below the handle, it's enough to trigger it to lock/unlock itself non stop. Drives me nuts. Never had a problem with any of the doors.

+1
That's the one thing I hate about keyless go, way too sensitive.

It reacts to the difference in temperature. The water in the hose is different temperature from the temperature of the handle - same as your hand. It is supposed to be sensitive as it should identify instant temp. change pretty fast.

At this point I would take over sensitive. It's kinda embarassing being the public parking lot and you're constantly trying to open the door but there is no reaction so you look like a douche tyring to jack someone's car.

To Accel, I'll ask them tomorrow on your suggestions. Earliest timeframe they are giving me is 3-5 business days to get the antenna in. This will be the first weekend I'm away from my car *cries ... what am I going to wash this weekend?

LOL....That's exactly what I do when I wash my car. I hate it arming and unarming itself everytime the spray hits the handle. Other than that, I have never had any issues with the door handles not reacting to my touch.

Miles or kilometers ? I always recommend to change transmission oil every 50K km and MB dealers I am working with are now in line with my theory. I would not be too concerned with 5K difference - just change next one at 100K.

So I have some updates,

Spoke with my SA today and they are still waiting on the Antenna to come in. ETA is Friday but since we have the long weekend, at the earliest they are thinking next Wednesdayish to be done if indeedit is the right solution.

Accel, they tested wiring as a first step and it came back negative.

Apparently, they are now connected to Germany and the engineers there are closely monitoring the process with my car. As the techs here work, they can provide feedback.

I'm hoping this will fix it as It's been too long without my C63 lol ... I miss the exhaust note and when I see other C63s, M3s etc on the road, I always want to give them a wave but quickly realize I'm putting around in a GLK now lol.... plus I've gotten bored driving this GLK ... will have put 1500km on it (so now its fully broken in )... have requested to take another loaner for the weekend.

Did you ask them why would single antenna react differently to different door handles on your vehicle ? All I can say is they are guessing and no, they did not check the wiring/sensor properly as it takes at least 4-5 hours... Welcome to dealership world.

Oh my... another week-end w/o your car? Sorry to hear Fung. It must be frustrating to be out of your car for such a small problem... even more frustrating that the stealer can't diagnose it.

MBBarrie is garbage... Victoria Star Motors in Waterloo is by far the best dealer Ive experienced in southern ontario! Beats out all of the GTA dealers easily! They are an AMG center too!

What rotten luck. Hope it is fixed once and for all shortly. Think how much you will enjoy hitting that go button when you get it back!
