C63 6.3L?

Am just kind of curios, I was at MB USA site and it states the C63 as 6.3L, even at the AMG site. Did they increase the capacity of the 6.2 to 6.3 for the 2012 models?

Pretty sure it's a typo by the marketing folks.

I read somewhere that it has to do with a historical reason in the line up of MB for AMG .....

from a quick search on the internet:
Quote:
The reason it is called the 6.3 L is because they are paying homage to the original vehicle that AMG modified when it was formed just over 40 years ago (1968). That vehicle was the 300SEL 6.3. The new 6.3 L engine is another first for AMG. It is the first engine designed entirely in-house as opposed to being a modified existing Mercedes Benz engine.

To comply with German law, Mercedes-Benz is required to round up the displacement figure to 6.3 when used for marketing purposes.

I believe they do this because In Germany you have to pay the taxes annually for every started liter, 6.3 brings in more than 6.2. There is the rumor that it was to pay homage to an earlier model but again I believe it is mandated by the government.

From everything I have heard and read, it is to pay homage to that earlier model that turned out to be very successful in various races.

ya... That would make sense since governments are always greedy but ... isn't it a 6208 displacement ... that's a pretty big round up ... don't you think?

Reason why i asked was because when I bought my car about a year+ ago, i rem the AMG site stated it was a 6.2L engine, now it states 6.3L, so that got me curios.

Must be German math. They are calling the new 5.5 TT motors E63 etc.

It's like 6208cc's if you want to get picky.
